Apple together with LG Innotek and Jahwa will introduce its periscopic lens

Apple will continue to count on LG Innotek and Jahwa Electronics to make the camera modules for its future devices. This time we talk about the adjustable zoom modules, whose technology will allow a telescopic perspective within a smaller "hump" in the camera module.

As 9to5mac already reported, Jahwa invested 191 billion (US) in new facilities for a potential collaboration agreement with Apple. Those from Cupertino even got to visit the facilities that Jahwa had in South Korea in early 2021.

According to the rumors, Jahwa Electronics to supply Apple with optical image stabilizers (OIS) designed for telephoto photography lenses on upcoming iPhone models.

Sources close to this matter report that Jahwa Electronics' OIS patents are very good for creating adaptive zoom modules (which would be able to reduce their size depending on their use). This technology leads periscopic camera systems using prisms to accommodate the light input to the sensors, being able to mix the light so that the modules can be reduced in size and achieving two things: reduce the physical size of the device that incorporates it and increase the zoom range in the device's camera.

TheElec reports that Jahwa is working on modules where a ball acts as an actuator and moves the lens, replacing the spring-based system Apple currently uses in its cameras. This method would be much more accurate and helps the larger sensors used in higher resolution cameras.

Apple has been meeting with South Korean companies since 2019 to work on its camera modules. Also, it seems that one of the Apple's next advances in cameras is to focus on zoom and allow greater stability in the telescopic image choosing and working on this type of modules. Nevertheless, It doesn't seem likely that we will see these advances until 2023 (at least) with the arrival of the iPhone 15 (or the name that those from Cupertino decide for their flagship in just over 12 months).
