Apple TV + is now available on 2016 and 2017 LG Smart TVs

Apple continues with its plans to expand and grow its streaming service, Apple TV +. If you had already launched the application for a multitude of platforms, Smart TVs, video consoles or third-party streaming devices such as the Amazon Fire, Stick or Roku, now Apple (finally) brings its app compatibility to the older LG Smart TVs, those from 2016 and 2017.

This release was first identified by FlatpanelsHD, where they were able to announce it at a article, but later LG Support service was able to corroborate it in a document prepared by themselves.

Recall that Apple has already introduced Apple TV + app compatibility on LG Smart TVs with the latest LG webOS, models released from 2018 onwards.. However, it was pending to see how the platform could be adjusted to televisions from years before and, many months later, the arrival has been made official for the users who were waiting.

However, Apple has had to make an adaptation of its app, since it is not "completely the same" as the app launched for the most modern models. Starting with the name and logo of the app, which are different depending on the Smart TV model. Also the experience is different, since, although the navigation is similar, Only Apple TV + content can be viewed on 2016 and 2017 models. Remember that the Apple service also allows you to view content in the iTunes Store and related to other platforms directly in the app.

LG has not released a definitive list of models that will be compatible with the service app, but according to FlatpanelsHD, it could be assumed that the OLED models will be 100% included.

There were many of us (I include myself) who were waiting for this move by Apple to be able to access Apple TV + content on our own television directly, however, including new models where we can download the app is just a small step for the service grow up. The great move that Apple must make continues to be the content since, without it, no matter how many devices that reproduce it, the service and number of active users will never be the protagonists. And they should be.
