Apple updates the firmware of the AirPods Pro with support for spatial sound

The AirPods Pro were announced last October 2019. This accessory was intended to be a superior option to conventional AirPods with truly innovative functions considering the size of the headphones. Throughout this year, users have been able to enjoy the active noise cancellation, ambient sound mode and other functions associated with the complex internal mechanism of the headphones. A few hours ago, apple updated the firmware of the AirPods Pro to version 3A283 bringing spatial sound to AirPods Pro as Apple promised at the WWDC 2020 presentation last June.

We welcome spatial sound to AirPods Pro in iOS 14

Apple has updated the firmware of the AirPods Pro to version 3A283. This new version offers two new features to these headphones: surround sound and automatic switching between devices which was announced in the last WWDC 2020. To be able to enjoy these news it is necessary to have AirPods Pro, of course, and use the latest beta of iOS 14.

The internal structure of the Apple Pro headphones allows it to adapt to the technology known as spatial sound. Thanks to this technology, users can enjoy audiovisual content with a Surround audio compatible with Dolby Atmos, 5.1 and 7.1. The operating mechanism is complex but the objective is simple. It is achieved that the sound of what the user is seeing is as enveloping as possible as if it were a movie theater.

The AirPods Pro will use accelerometers and gyroscopes to make the user feel that the sound is coming from a fixed source, so the movement of the head will imply that the sound is outlined according to the sound of what is being seen. Thanks to the integration of this surround sound, these headphones can be used as virtual reality accessories. With the aim of having a more immersive experience using technologies such as Dolby Atmos that allows you to create immersive audios.
