Apple wants to offer movie premieres on iTunes

Digital content sales are not going through their best moment. Streaming content on demand with services like Netflix now available worldwide, and others like HBO slowly expanding, is making classic stores like iTunes see their revenues decline compared to other times. And we cannot forget about piracy, very present in markets such as Spanish. But Apple wants to return to the splendor of other times, at least in its movie store, because wants to offer movies on iTunes for rent while they are in theaters. And it seems that the negotiations are on the right track, although the price is not going to be low.

Negotiations are being carried out with large companies such as 21st Century Fox, Warner Bros or Universal Pictures, and it seems that the interest is not only coming from Apple, but that the studios are also evaluating this possibility very positively, which would allow us to see a premiere movies in the living room only two weeks after they are released in theaters. Right now releases that first hit iTunes have to wait about 90 days from their theatrical release, but studios want to get new revenue from other sources, and not just from movie theaters. The price of these premieres? Nothing cheap, about € 25-50 per film on a rental basis. But if we take into account what a movie ticket costs and that a movie could be seen by an entire family, the accounts do not go bad, although obviously the experience would never be the same as the cinema.

One of the big concerns would be piracy, since being able to enjoy FullHD movies on your computer or television screen means that these movies would soon be available in this same quality on any download or streaming website. Apple's encryption system is very good, but recording a computer screen is not complicated at all, and neither is capturing audio.. We do not know how long the negotiations could last, or if an agreement would eventually be reached between the parties, but it would be a great move by Apple to attract more users to its platform and Apple TV.
