Apple Watch joins Apple's list of recyclable products

Recyclable Apple Watch

When we buy an Apple device, the most sensible thing is to endure it for several years or, failing that, to sell it to finance our next acquisition. Another option is to sell it to the company on the block to recondition and sell it or deliver it for your responsible recycling. Until recently we were only able to deliver Apple devices such as an iPhone (or other smartphone), iPad, computers (Mac and PC), iPod and other older devices, but now we can also deliver our "old" Apple Watch.

Personally, right now it seems crazy to me to take advantage of the Apple Renew program by delivering an Apple Watch, more than anything because what we would be delivering is a device that, at most, has been used since April 2015. Also, unlike It happens with when we deliver an iPhone, an iPad or an iMac, when we send our Apple Watch to them to recycle it we will not receive a euro, which I have to admit, seems like a white-collar theft to me, not to mention the impression that makes me believe that Apple would resell that "old" Apple Watch.

We can now recycle our Apple Watch ... in exchange for € 0

In the apple recycled products page, those of Cupertino link us to third-party services that will take care of recycling and send us a gift card. For iOS products use Brightstar, while for computers use PowerOn. Use a third option to recycle products without offering this gift card, which is Sims Recycling Solutions, an option that has also been used for the Apple Watch since last week, at least from the US website.

Personally, I think it is important to recycle electronic products responsibly, but this doesn't mean we have to do something silly like ditch a device that should work perfectly. The only way I would understand using the option offered by Tim Cook and company is if we had had an accident that would have left the Apple Watch unusable, so as not to throw it away with all the polluting material it contains inside. In any case, we already know that those from Cupertino already allow us to deliver an original Apple Watch to recycle it.
