One of the most useful features of the Apple Watch are the status icons from the top of the screen, which tell us quickly and at a glance at our smartwatch if we have not seen notifications and a few more things. These icons are displayed on the watch face and also from the applications, with the sole exception of when we access the Friends section.
Some of these icons will be familiar to us, like practically everything on the Apple Watch, since they have been taken from iOS, but also there are new icons. Below we show you the icons that we will see on our Apple Watch and what they mean.
Notification. This is the icon that we will see the most and, ultimately, the most useful. Notifies us that we have unread notifications.
locked. We will see this icon when the Apple Watch is not on our wrists and locked with a code.
Disconnected from iPhone. This icon will appear when the Apple Watch has lost connection with the paired iPhone. It could happen if we go out of range or if we have disabled Bluetooth on the iPhone.
Loading. We will see this icon when there is WiFi activity or an active process on our Apple Watch.
Do not disturb. This icon will be familiar to iOS users. We will see it on the screen when we have put our iPhone or Apple Watch in Do Not Disturb mode, so calls and alerts will be silenced and will not turn on the screen, except for alarms.
Airplane mode. We will see this icon when we put the Apple Watch in airplane mode. It also means that it is not connected to our iPhone, something that we must do if we want to save battery on our iPhone or Apple Watch when we are low on charge. Features that do not require WiFi, such as activity tracking or heart rate monitor, will continue to work.
Loading. As the name suggests, this will let us know when the Apple Watch is charging.
Sometimes, we will be shown several icons to indicate everything that is happening or has happened on our iPhone / Apple Watch.
It would be nice if Apple included these icons on the iPhone as well. It would be a good way to unify all the notifications and make the image of the entire Apple ecosystem even more similar.
