Every three months, we check how Apple's business is in selling iPhones, representing more than 60% of the revenue generated by the company, an iPhone-dependency that Apple should try to diversify, but at the moment it does not seem to have the intention of doing and the latest movements do not seem very encouraging.
The Cupertino-based company has just announced that, once it runs out of stock of the AirPort range, in its different versions, these products will no longer be available via the web or through the physical stores that the company has throughout the world. As happened when Apple announced that it was stopping selling external monitors, those from Cupertino have published a series of recommendations to improve our Wi-Fi network.
The abandonment of this series of products was already seen coming. In November 2016, Bloomberg announced that Apple had killed off the group that had been responsible for creating this range of products, and in January of this year, Apple began selling third-party routers to create mesh networks through the Apple online store. All that remained was for Apple to make the official announcement, an announcement that for all lovers of this type of product is undoubtedly bad news.
Despite the announcement, the AirPort range is still available at the same price, which shows that Apple is in no hurry to get rid of this product line completely, even if it does not intend to continue to focus on this product line. If you want to do with any of these products before their final disappearance, you will have to pay 109 euros for the AirPort Express, 219 euros for the Extreme AirPort, and 329 euros / 429 euros for the 2 or 3 TB Time Capsule respectively. It may be time to start thinking about mesh networks, as recommended by Apple.
