Augmented Reality sweeps video games on the App Store

How many utilities have we wanted to invent for Augmented Reality? ever since Apple first taught us what it was capable of. Even so, the Cupertino company itself made it clear to us that its main asset was going to be entertainment in the form of video games.

This is how expectations are being met in these terms, but unfortunately they are not taking too much advantage of other possibilities that the world of Augmented Reality opens up to all users. The figures are clear, Augmented Reality is mainly dominating the field of video games.

Despite the fact that with ARKit the Cupertino company has wanted to considerably facilitate the way in which companies develop this time of technology for their iOS devices, we are not talking about an invention, far from it. So much so that Augmented Reality was already present, for example, in Pokémon Go since its launch and it turned out to work quite well, despite being one of the main reasons why Niantic's famous game notoriously dynamited the battery of iOS (and Android) devices. Sensor Tower analysts are offering the first data on the integration of Augmented Reality in the App Store and the result was what was expected.

35% of the total applications developed with ARKit are videogames, just as the Cupertino company itself predicted, showing us the first results with demonstrations, among other things, of Star Wars. Far is 19% of applications created as utilities, an example is the IKEA application and the way it implements Augmented Reality. Unfortunately, only 8% of the applications based on ARKit focus on the educational environment, a scenario where well used it could perform a fairly important social function. In the meantime, we have no alternative but to continue having fun playing games in Augmented Reality.
