Bose accused of spying on users of their devices and selling the data to third parties

Bose QuietComfort 35

One of the best brands that we can find in the world of headphones is the German firm Bose, but it seems that this company is not only dedicated to selling well-known quality devices but also, according to the latest demand that has been presented in the United United, it is dedicated to spying on all the content that users who have bought its products listen to. All information obtained about music preferences, podcasts and any other audio is sold to third parties to target advertising. This lawsuit has been filed in Chicago and seeks millionaire compensation in damages for all users of Bose products.

As we can read in Reuters, the lawsuit claims that Bose uses the Bose Connect app to spy on the content that your users listen to. The application is used by users to pair their headphones to devices, manage software updates, and more. Bose recommends that users download the app for the best possible sound experience and requests that the user enter their email address, name, and the serial number of their device.

This lawsuit has been filed by Kyle Zak accusing the German company of acting with contempt towards the privacy of its users. Zak states that Bose sends all the multimedia information that is consumed through the device to which it is connected to services such as Segment.io, a service that is responsible for collecting the information and send it anywhere. The devices affected by this lawsuit are: QuietComfort 35, QuietControl 30, SoundLink Around-Ear Wireless Headphones II, SoundLink Color II, SoundSport Wireless and SoundSport Pulse Wireless.

This accusation against Bose, if finally confirmed, may be a serious problem for the company which for years had made a name for itself in the industry. At the moment the company has not made any statement in this regard, but it is expected to do so in the next few hours.

I would say that Bose is an American company, not a German one.
