Apple's CareKit platform now officially available

CareKit

Today, Thursday, April 27, Apple has made available to developers the framework from CareKit, a healthcare platform that enables developers to create advanced software to track, manage, and report medical conditions. As they already announced in March, CareKit is a tool that works in a similar way to ResearchKit, but on a much smaller scale. ResearchKit is for nationwide studies and CareKit is designed to facilitate the safe collection of user data for personal use or sharing with healthcare professionals.

According to TechCrunch, at the moment there are four applications available for iPhone users: Glow nurture, fertility monitoring; Glow baby, application for maternity; One drop, for monitoring diabetes; and Home, for the follow-up of anti-depression medication. CareKit is open source and available today on GitHub.

CareKit, small-scale medical data management

Developers using CareKit can integrate four main interactive modules into their applications:

  • The card Care card It can be configured to manage wellness tasks such as taking medication and exercising.
  • The card Progress Card It contains a symptom and measurement tracking option to record physical indicators such as pain levels, hunger and heart rate, which could be integrated with the Apple Watch.
  • Data from Care Cards and Progress Cards can be viewed and compared in the module Inside Dashboard.
  • The module Connect allows users to share their health data with doctors.

CareKit is also compatible with many health record systems, like Epic, making it easy to safely share health data with many supporting doctors and hospitals. The question is: when will we see this in countries like where a server writes from?
