CarPlay multi-window is now compatible with third-party navigation apps

CarPlay keeps getting better as iOS updates are released, and if with iOS 13 we launch a new home page "multi-window" now with iOS 13.4 offers the ability for third-party navigation apps. GPS like Google Maps or Waze use it.

It is the great cover of Apple systems, it hardly makes a noise, it hardly attracts attention, but when someone uses it in their car, they fall in love instantly. CarPlay debuted a long time ago but over the years it has been one of the systems that has evolved the most, with improvements that have increased its usefulness and that have made it essential for many of us who use the car on a daily basis. Its openness to third-party applications has been fundamental in this way, and not long ago the exclusivity of Apple Maps ended and Waze and Google Maps arrived to give more options to those who do not want to use the browser that the car has integrated.

But there was a place where Apple Maps was once again exclusive, and that is that the arrival of iOS 13 brought a new multi-window view, much more useful than the one we had so far that limited the view to a single app. With the new main screen we can see our navigation app, the player and upcoming calendar appointments, in addition to the navigation instructions. This feature, starting with iOS 13.4, can be used by other navigation applications other than Apple Maps. One important step remains: developers need to update their apps to be compatible with this new home page, something that we hope will happen in the next few weeks with the two applications compatible with CarPlay: Google Maps and Waze. These updates will appear in CarPlay when they are updated on your iPhone.
