Changes in the way to pay with FaceID in iOS 11.3

Speed up Face ID unlocking

The Cupertino company launched yesterday the first beta of iOS 11.3 in which many new features are promised, including AirPlay 2, we imagine that to improve and integrate the capabilities of the HomePod, how could it be otherwise on a date so close to launch.

However, not everything is going to stay in functionalities that are not seen, the development team is also working on improving the user interface, especially that of the iPhone X which is the star terminal right now in the Cupertino company. This is how the iPhone X has received a slight tweak in the way we use FaceID to make transactions in the App Store among other places.

As you well know, those of us who still enjoy TouchID simply position our fingerprint on the reader to make a transaction or purchase through the iOS App Store. However, the version with FaceID required slight improvements to prevent an iPhone X user from mistakenly purchasing a payment product or application through these means. So Apple got to work and has not taken too long to devise a new method that requires voluntary user intervention, but that again calls into question the effectiveness and comfort of FaceID with respect to the "veteran" and totally contrasted TouchID.

To voluntarily carry out these transactions now the user will have to press twice on the lock button of the iPhone X, making it clear to the system that they are ready to make the payment Through authentication with FaceID, it is undoubtedly an interesting security measure, what is not so interesting is having to make three times as many movements to make a purchase with FaceID than with TouchID, but when Apple insists on imposing a technology, has a bad habit of completely discarding the old one. In the meantime, we continue to see progress in iOS and remain curious about what will be the TouchID in the next versions of the iPhone that we see during the year 2018.

First of all, I think that not having FaceID in your day to day, is what leads you to write that "you still enjoy TouchID", for my part, I no longer remember it, I don't need it and I don't miss it.

On the other hand, this way of paying with FaceID by double clicking on the side button (that's what it is called, not the lock button) we have on the iPhone X from day one with iOS 11.

      Hi Hector, greetings fellow Geek.

We have corrected the information because I did not express myself well what I wanted to communicate. On the other hand, it is evidence that paying for applications is much slower with FaceID than with TouchID, it is a reality not an opinion. And obviously I have tried the FaceID technology, you can check our review.

Be that as it may, greetings and thanks for reading.

Since I have the X that method already works, it is no change ..

For me, FaceID is the future.

With all due respects, editor, I think you are wrong. This functionality has been around since iOS 11 came out, and on our iPhone X it has been going since the beginning. The only thing that has changed is the MESSAGE that appears, so that the user is clear that they have to click twice on the side button to make the purchase / download. Before that message (the one that appears below), it did not appear.

It is the only difference, but the action takes from the beginning. Correct your article 🙂

    A greeting!

From the first moment I used the FaceID, I totally forgot about the touchID. He is not lacking at all. On the other hand it is said that it is slower, how much? 0,05 seconds? Is that a problem? Certainly not for me. All the best.

Pressing the side button when making a purchase has been since the iPhone X came out is nothing new in iOS 11.3
