Clean restoration: the solution to many problems

Since iOS 4 came out, we have tried many things to improve its performance and some such as removing the shadows works very well and returns a lot of fluidity to iPhone 3G users, But there is something else that can be done that many people do not do out of sheer laziness: restore the iPhone from scratch.

It is a process that is slow for all the time it takes to put the data back in later, but I assure you that it is very effective in many cases to improve the performance of the iPhone., since formatting it cleans it completely.

Something very important is that when the iPhone gives you to choose between backup or configure it as a new one, choose this second option and synchronize the content by hand, since otherwise the process will not have been worth anything.

Try and tell me ...

Are we talking only for 3g or 3gs?
To those of you who have 3gs, how are you doing?
To my good except that it gives me the impression that the battery flies ...

  2.   Zalea said

Well, in the 3Gs the battery also lasts much less than before and it is not a simple impression, make the same use as before and it does not last almost anything, if I know before I do not update.

  3.   alvthebest said

Pff that would be a pain in the ass. You lose a lot of things, not only because of time, but because there will never be anything like that.
With all the utilities out there I am surprised that there is no "Format" for the iphone.

It was what I did from the beginning and surely that's why it has worked well for me although with multitasking sometimes it gets a bit slow and the battery at least gives me the same as before neither more nor less at least when I use the I have not tried the ipod or the wifi in play yet.

Original 3GS and no jailbreak. Everything OK, I think everything goes a little faster but I also think the battery lasts less. Before it came to me in two days and now it stays in a day, a day and a half. Indeed, doing the restore from scratch is lazy. Yes, I did the backup restore and a couple of hard resets and it seems to be going a bit better.

  6.   Arthur said

I did all that on my 3G, one day it goes half well, the next it comes back slow. And I have it without the famous multitasking, as it would be if I had it. The problem for me is not there, it is in the new IOS4, which is a ram eater. Many 3GSs have slowness problems too, it only works for the Iphone 4.

Hello, I have been noticing that since the update the battery lasts much less. I think I know why. Specifically, the problem is in the Bluetooth.
I usually use the phone a lot to talk with the hands-free of my car. On Monday I could see that during a trip of just over two hours and without speaking a single minute on the phone (it was simply linked) the battery consumed 40%, it went from 100% to 60% without doing anything.
I think there must be something wrong with the bluetooth. Has the same happened to any of you?
    All the best

I have an iPhone 3GS with IOS 4 and it works much better than IOS 3, the battery lasts longer and is faster. I do not have jailbreak, it is original and multitasking is going very well for more applications that I have open, it is not encouraged or anything you play messaging, nothing is encouraged, good greetings

If I restore completely and from scratch, how do I later recover my contacts, reminders in the calendars, notes, favorites in Safari, etc?

    Thank you!

Hello friends, I am in the same as the majority. I have a 3G and I have not been able to stop being so slow with iOS4, I have tried everything they have said so far. I want to do the restoration from Zero as they say here, but I have A DOUBT: IF I DO IT FROM ZERO, WILL I NOT LOSE MY CONTACTS AND MY NOTES? The applications would not matter to me because I reinstall them all. Thanks a lot.

But if you sync by hand, all settings, records, etc. are lost. of the Apps that do not use an online system to save them!

I restored on Sunday, and then used backup on a 3G (no jailbreak) and it is working fine for me. The performance is equal to or better than version 3.x and the battery lasts me longer. I'm very happy.

But if I do it like this by configuring it as a new iPhone, the photos that I have assigned to contacts and other things like that also get deleted or do I just have to put the photos and music applications back in?

  13.   Nacho Vegas said

After getting pissed off with my 3G I did what was described here and it improved the performance a lot. I would add to complete the fluency of the 3G is not to activate multitasking and funds on the home screen.

It goes to me now that it is wonderful.

  14.   Luis Antonio said

Before doing the restoration and after I finished, I configured it as a new iPhone but with the same name as it had before and I kept all the settings, the contacts, the applications with the photos, but it was because I moved it from where had on the computer.

  15.   Antonio said

Just yesterday I did what is described here. I must admit that the increase in performance has been more than remarkable. As for the battery, I have not noticed a substantial improvement. It solved all the problems I had on the phone.

    Keep in mind that:

    1. The data of the applications will be lost, as well as the text messages, the phone's own settings, (bluetooth, email, settings, etc ...)

    2. When you synchronize again, you will have the applications, contacts and everything you have on iTunes installed again.

    3. If you want a fast phone, don't go overboard installing and deleting applications. Like any operating system it degrades little by little.

The first day the jailbreak came out I did it and tried both options. Restore the backup and start from scratch. Obviously the 2nd was the correct one, notably it improves the speed and I have also tried with and without wallpaper, the 2nd option is the chosen one.
To summarize I recommend restoring with IOS4, Jailbreak with multitasking and without wallpaper, finally tell iTunes that it is a new iPhone.

When updating a 3G does the baseband go up?

I have not decided to update it yet

  18.   manuel said

As well as give, I am afraid that the baseband will rise again and a paper press will remain as before until they took out the new unlock, someone can help us

  19.   manuel said

Nacho, give us a hand, I don't have it with any company, that is, with a contract, that's why I'm afraid that it won't charge me 4 and leave it blocked like when we updated 3.1.3.

  20.   manuel said

Thanks nacho one more question if you leave it with the disk and the usb cable with which program can I start it on 3.1.3 I did it with the snowbrezze bone I made my own os

  21.   Ber said

Possibly the truth, I was up to the C… .of how slow I was. Upgrade to 4 and restore the backup, also enable multitasking and funds on my iPhone 3G, I was slower than a turtle, restore again and now with a clean installation and again multitasking and funds ... unfortunately more than the same, he gave me the vein to put the SBSettings and by magic my humble IPhone 3G works well, not to get rockets but at least acceptable.
PS: In the different updates I have tried to put less applications, less folders, etc and nothing.
I'm not saying that sbsetting works for everyone, at least it has worked for me.

  22.   manuel said

When trying to install the os4 it tells me to erase everything and restore by connecting to apple and well, as always, check if you have unlocked the phone or jilbrequeado and it does not let you install

  23.   manuel said

thanks nacho is very clear but to all this the 3g phone finally works well or hangs this is the interesting thing to know what those who have already done it think

how to restore from 0? because I have nothing important on the iphone or even contacts someone give me an idea?

  27.   Nacho Vegas said

If we reset the iPhone, it will be like new, but the contacts we had in the Mac Agenda or Windows Outlook (and the calendars as well) will be synchronized again.

If we have the calendars and contacts synchronized with Gmail, nothing is lost, which is how I have it and it is very comfortable to work, since it is not necessary to go through iTunes to synchronize an event or a contact.

Photos taken with the iPhone are lost, so keep them safe. SMS and app settings are lost and you have to reconfigure (this usually takes a while). Apps purchased or downloaded from the App Store are stored in iTunes and can be reinstalled without much hassle. Those of Cidya have to search and reinstall.

Remember that there is always the old backup to be able to restore it as you had it, with its advantages and defects.

  28.   Nacho Vegas said

Manuel, I have it with Simyo and hold like a titan with 3.1.2. But now the ultrasnow dares with all the baseband and there is no danger of leaving the iPhone locked.

  29.   Nacho Vegas said

I guess you can use the same, I don't know. I used redsn0w and without problems.

  30.   dijoma said

Cesar you have to activate it with an operator card that uses that iphone. It does the same to me when it finishes it tells me that the sim is not valid because it has the pin activated.
I solve it when it tells me that by introducing the SIM pin in the iphone, and then I disconnect the cable from the computer, and reconnect it. And voila it tells me that my iphe is activated. I hope I have helped you luck Saudossssssssssssss ……… ..

  31.   manuel said

that issue of ceasing should be discussed how to start it from that state if you can with redsnow or another program

  34.   Rafael said

Hello everyone, with my 3G I have made it like a new iPhone and the truth has improved my performance compared to the other option, it has not slowed me down, but I have had the problem of network settings that I had not had before , which I have solved with the program to load profiles. Nor have I put background, or multitasking. The battery also seems to last longer, just like the other way of restoration.

  35.   byons said

A friend restored her 3G without a clean restoration and it goes faster and the battery lasts more or the same as in 3.1.3; And that activated the wallpaper and multitasking ..

Hello, I would like help please, I have an iPhone 3GS 32 GB, free, without jailbreak, I had it in version 4.0 and when I connected it to the computer and itunes was opened, I got a new update, the iOS 4.1 when it starts to restore it It remains in the middle as if it were hanging, and I left it like that for more than two hours and nothing, and redo the system 20 thousand times and nothing. Then on the other hand I decided to download iOS 4.1 and when I try to enter it I know that it does not matter as the other procedure. Is there any solution thank you.

You know since I updated my iphone 3gs from ios 5.0.1 to ios 5.1 and had problems connecting my bluethoot headphones, that it can be done and read that some updates change the baseband.
