Comparison between the disassembly of AirPods 3 and Beats Fit Pro

iFixit

Surely many of us would love to work on the team of technicians at iFixit. They spend the day dismantling and analyzing the interior of any electronic device that appears on the market, no matter how expensive it may be.

Today it was the turn of two models of headphones "in ear". To the new AirPods 3 from Apple and the Fit Pro from Beats. They have unmounted, (rather destroyed) and have published a video comparing the two destruction.

The guys at iFixit are never bored. They always have a device to disassemble and thus see its interior. In the video that they have shown us today, we can see how they have measured the hand of some AirPods 3 and some BeatsFitPro, thus comparing the disassembly of the two headphone models.

In this video you can see the entire disassembly process of the two models. Considering the small size of the device, they had to literally break them to see inside. They even needed to use a clamp to be able to apply enough pressure to break the adhesive seal using a prong on the two plastic halves. A wreck, come on.

The video in question lasts six minutes. In it you can see how the iFixit team opens both Apple headphones and shows us how they are inside. Given their small size, both devices feature a bundle of components that includes delicate cables, chips, sensors, and the battery for each unit.

You cannot change the battery without breaking them

In both cases they got to access the battery, for a possible change, but caused a irreparable damage in both models. Neither AirPods nor Beats Fit Pro are designed to reattach once opened.

So, seeing what was seen, iFixit gave the third generation AirPods and Beats Fit Pro a zero out of 10 on its repairability scale. The battery cannot be changed. You have to break the plastic housing of the headphones to access it, so we can forget about a hypothetical battery change when it begins to fail. Pity.
