Little by little new information and specifications are being revealed about the HomePod, the second speaker that the guys from Cupertino are launching on the market. Apple has published the environmental report on the impact and consumption of its devices, in which we can see how HomePod uses less electricity than an LED bulb certified while playing music.
Category A LED bulbs, which offer lower consumption, offer a minimum consumption of 9-10 watts, while the consumption of the HomePod listening to music, its main activity, at half volume is at a maximum of 8,69 watts connected to a voltage of 100 v.
This report shows us a graph in which we can see the energy consumption of the HomePod depending on the volts that provide the electricity necessary to function. In the United States and Canada, the voltage is 115 v, offering the HomePod a consumption of 8,74 w playing music at half its volume. But if we connect it to a 230 v source, it happens in most European countries, consumption of HomePod playing music at half its volume rises to 9,25 watts.
Apple claims that the HomePod is so energy efficient because it automatically goes into low power mode after 8 minutes of no activity. In low consumption mode the device has a consumption of 1,71 w, connected to a source of 100 and 115 v and 1,76 w connected to a source of 230 v. This environmental report states that HomePod is not made from flame retardant materials with bromine, PVC, or beryllium and that 100% of all packaging comes from responsible forests or recycled paper.
The HomePod is now available for reservation if you live or know a friend who can send it to you, in the United States, United Kingdom and Australia, although you must bear in mind that at the time of its launch, Siri will only be available in English and with the accent corresponding to each of these countries that is part of the initial batch.
