One of the improvements we've seen in App Store subscriptions in recent years has been to be able to test apps with a free subscription period when we first subscribed.
Now, in the iOS 12.2 beta 3 beta, Apple adds new options that seek to reduce the price of subscriptions through promotions and that users stay subscribed to the service.
Developers can now add discounted subscriptions at any time. For example, "50% discount on subscription for 6 months."
These promotional options are in addition to the already used initial free period and the option to subscribe for a full year at a lower price than paying month to month.
Specifically, in Apple's beta note, tell us the following:
"StoreKit now supports offers on subscriptions In addition to the introductory offers, thus, apps with auto-renewal subscriptions will soon be able to offer a reduced price for a specific period of time for their users' old and current subscriptions. You can use subscription offers to recover users who had canceled their subscription or to promote an upgrade to a subscription at a special price. Users will be able to accept these offers even if they have already used the initial trial period. "
This measure is clearly focused on recovering users with special offers. Something that benefits developers and users who, on many occasions, we rush to subscribe and the free trial period remains unused.
The update improves one aspect of the new direction that both Apple and developers appear to be taking., which is subscriptions to use apps and even Apple's own services, such as Apple Music and, shortly, its streaming video service, its news subscription service and the rumored video game on demand service.
