Apple Maps transit directions reach Seattle

Transit directions arrive in Seattle

Apple yesterday updated its Maps to add traffic information to the Seattle area, Washington. From now on, users residing in the area will also be able to search for public transport options such as trains, trams, buses and other types of transport when carrying out their searches, something that seems important to me in cities whose size and population invite us to use this type of transport to the detriment of our own vehicle.

Traffic directions within Apple Maps arrived on the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad last September along with iOS 9. At first, Tim Cook and company only offered this type of content in a limited number of cities, but this number has been expanded to total of 16 worldwide and dozens in China, a country that has been responsible for the latest growth of the Cupertino company.

Cities where Apple Maps Transit directions are available

  • Austin, Texas
  • Baltimore, Maryland
  • Berlin Germany
  • Boston, Massachusetts
  • Chicago, Illinois
  • London, England
  • Los Angeles, California
  • Mexico City, Mexico
  • Montreal and Toronto, Canada
  • New York City
  • New York; Philadelphia
  • San Francisco, California
  • Sydney, Australia
  • Seattle, Washington
  • Washington, DC
  • Many cities in China

The page where they put in which countries this service is available has not yet been updated by adding Seattle, but it should do so at any time. About when this function will arrive in other countries, no Apple spokesperson has said anything about it, so it could be months or a year before it reaches Spain. The list does include a Spanish-speaking city, CDMX, so they could add new cities in Mexico in the not too distant future. The rest of the countries have no choice but to wait or use competitor maps. Did someone say Google Maps?
