The products of the Big Apple, as well as those of a large part of the technology companies are based on materials that, for the most part, are imported from abroad. The Donald Trump administration has proposed $ 200 billion tariffs to Chinese imports. The unrest at Apple's top is real because that would imply a higher cost of its US products.
These tariffs have provoked a quick response from the Apple executive urging the Government to find different strategies to try to avoid increasing tariffs and decrease growth and competitiveness against the rest of the countries of the world.
A letter from Apple urging Trump to lower tariffs
The new tariffs imposed by the Donald Trump administration have set off alarms at the Cupertino offices. Apple claims that will be the most affected for these increase in import price decreasing competitiveness and growth of the United States thus increasing the price of products.
Among the products that would see their price increase would be the Apple Watch, AirPods, HomePod, Beats headphones, AirPort, Apple Pencil, Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard, MacBooks, Mac Mini, cables, chargers and a selection of adapters. This increase will lead to a loss of competitiveness for several reasons, including a diversion of resources that will make foreign companies much more powerful than the current Apple.
Tim Cook has used different arguments to justify his decision to try to find, together with the US executive, new ways to alleviate the increase in tariffs. Among those arguments is the benefit your products make to society, in the case of the Apple Watch to detect abnormalities in the heart rhythm, for example:
Desde que presentamos Apple Watch hace unos años, hemos escuchado a los usuarios sobre cómo ha cambiado, y en algunos casos salvado, sus vidas. Apple Watch también se usa junto con universidades estadounidenses para ayudar a las personas a controlar afecciones de salud como la epilepsia y la recuperación posterior al ataque cardíaco.
