Before the arrival of the Apple Watch, many were the users who went for a run, a bicycle or went to the gym with the iPhone in a case attached to the upper arm in order to record their physical activity. With the launch of the Apple Watch, it replaced these unsightly covers although to this day we can still find them.
One of the first applications to reach the market to monitor sports activity was Edomondo, an application that in 2015 was purchased by Under Armor together with MyFitnessPal. 5 years after that purchase, Under Armor believe that already it's time to bundle both apps into one.
As we can read in the Edomondo blog, the application will no longer be available in the application stores, both the App Store and the Play Store and will stop receiving updates. The solution that Edomondo offers us to continue conserving users is UA MapMyRun, an application that should get a major update if you want to offer the same functions that we can currently find in Edomondo.
Users will be able to transfer their data from Edomondo to UA MapMyRun or other applications until March 31, 2021, when all user data will be completely deleted from their servers. In the statement where he reports Edmondo's disappearance, he offers us a series of tutorials to be able to export stored data to UA MapMyRun.
Starting this month, they will stop charging the monthly payment to all those users who pay monthly for the service. Regarding those who made the annual payment, it is most likely that in the coming weeks they will receive some type of compensation if they choose to switch to UA MapMyRun.
