Last August, it was a year since Fortnite's withdrawal from the App Store and Google Play Store, after add a payment system in the game that skipped the only payment methods that both Apple and Google accept in their digital stores.
While we await the verdict of the trial that has faced Epic and Apple a few months ago, in South Korea they went ahead in early September, forcing both Apple and Google allow alternatives to in-app purchases.
Taking advantage of this new law, Epic Games has announced that has requested Apple to return to the Apple Store and being able to launch Fortnite in South Korea. In the tweet published by the Epci Games account, we can read:
Epic has asked Apple to restore our Fortnite developer account. Epic intends to re-launch Fortnite on iOS in Korea by offering both Epic and Apple payment in parallel in compliance with the new Korean law.
Throughout the trial that has faced both companies, Apple repeatedly claimed that would allow Fortnite to return to the App Store if the option of direct payments was removed to comply with App Store guidelines and that it would not punish Epic for the lawsuit it has faced.
Epic's intention is launch Fortnite in South Korea with the payment system that the game had when it was removed from the App StoreNow that the laws of this country have proved him right, although for now, Apple has not yet updated the guidelines to adapt to this change because it has not entered into force.
South Korea's decision is more than likely influence the judgment verdict between the two companies, a verdict that at the moment seems that it will still take several months.
