Europe wants to adopt the "iFixit model" of repairability scores

iFixit has a nice place on this our blog every time a new iOS device is launchedEven on many occasions we also talk about iFixit when a device from another company that is not from our editorial line has been launched. They are dedicated to disassembling, reassembling (if possible) and analyzing step by step what is the repairability index of a device, taking the opportunity to create tutorials that help all users to change the parts of their devices.

It has been a fairly popular website among Apple users who wanted to save a certain amount of money by avoiding going through an Apple Store. Now Europe has seen the reef in iFixit repairability ratings and is considering adopting this model for European consumers in general.

According to the «Eurobarometer» of the year 2014, 77% of consumers in the European Union prefer to repair their devices to exchange them for a new one, however, they are quite unhappy with the prices of the repairs. That is why in places like Spain, alternative repair shops to the Apple Store proliferated, although this is becoming less common due to price reductions in screen repairs from the Cupertino company.

It must be borne in mind that on many occasions the big problem with an iPhone that is three years old (such as an iPhone 6 soon) is the number of cycles that its battery has consumed, so it is most recommended if the device is in good condition is only to change the battery, something that would have a fairly small cost and would lengthen its use, but it is ignorance that ends up defeating consumers. Now the European Union is thinking about adopting for the community market a system of scores on repairability of products such as iFixit that they will promote among users so that they know how easy it is to extend the life of their future products.
