Everything that WatchKit has revealed to us about the Apple Watch

Apple-Watch-Resolution

Little by little we are learning more about the Apple Watch, and in the absence of component leaks (Apple shows that when it wants nothing to be known, it does it wonderfully), it is the company itself that allows us to discover important features of its smartwatch, although she does it with a dropper, at the rate she wants to always leave us with honey on our lips. The latest release of iOS 8.2 Beta 1 with WatchKit already incorporated has revealed some data that are really interesting to know more about the next launch of the apple company.

Screen resolution

Both screens are Retina, with 4: 5 aspect ratio and with different resolution according to the size of the clock. The small model (if 38mm is small) will have a resolution of 340 × 272, while the large model (42mm) will have a somewhat higher resolution, 390 × 312. According to Apple's own information, both screens should show the same information, that is, wearing the larger watch will only mean that you will see everything bigger, not that you will see more information.

The iPhone will be your inseparable companion

Actually, the Apple smartwatch will not be very smart by itself, but it will always depend on whether you carry the iPhone with you and connected to it, or almost always. It will be a satellite that will allow us to access information and functions without using the iPhone, which can remain in your pocket. The applications that can be developed right now must always have the corresponding main application installed and running on the iPhone. The hard work is done by the iPhone, so the Apple Watch can take care of its meager battery to end the day.

That does not mean that it will always be this way, because Apple has said that developers will be able to create native apps for the Apple Watch, but it won't be possible until early 2015Maybe even after Apple launches the watch on the market. Apple also said in the presentation that we could listen to music from our Apple Watch without the need of the iPhone thanks to a bluetooth headset, which means that it must have storage capacity.

WatchKit-2

Three different types of applications

Based on the above we can differentiate three types of applications:

  • WatchKit apps: apps themselves but actually reside on the iPhone. The clock will show us an interface with which we can interact, but the application actually runs on the iPhone.
  • Glances: static notifications with which we cannot interact, only read them. Yes, they can link to the main iPhone application.
  • Interactive notifications: notifications like those shown by our iPhone but on our watch that, unlike the previous ones, will offer us different options to interact with them.

Two types of notifications

There will be two different notifications: short and long, and we will be the ones who will decide how the notifications will be. If the clock warns us of something and we lift it to see it, we will see a simple, fast notification that if we keep the clock up in view, it will be expanded to offer more information.

Limited gestures

A screen of this size cannot offer a very extensive catalog of touch gestures. Vertical, horizontal and from the edges of the screen, in addition to the obvious "tap" on the screen will be the only gestures that we can use. There will also be the so-called "Force Touch" Thanks to the pressure-sensitive screen, it will allow us to open a conceptual menu in the application we are in.

Animations limited to 20MB of images

The animations shown to us on the watch will not be processed by it, they will actually be images of the pre-rendered animation that will be played on the clock, with a limit of 20MB, not one more.

Install apps on the watch when installing them on the iPhone

If we install an application on the iPhone that has its extension for the Apple Watch and we have a watch linked to the smartphone automatically we will be asked if we want to install the application on the Apple watch, a simple and really the only way to do it since we will not have access from the clock to an application store.
