Facebook buys GIPHY to integrate mainly on Instagram

Social networks accompany us on a daily basis and also evolve by improving their interfaces and functionalities. The integration of GIFs within all platforms has meant a before and after in the way users communicate. Currently there is no social network that does not allow the incorporation of GIFs. What's more, GIPHY It is one of the largest databases where you can find all kinds of GIFs and it is integrated into the main social networks of the moment. A few hours ago Facebook announced the purchase of GIPHY for a value of 400 million whose main objective was integrate your applications, especially on Instagram.

GIPHY integration under its API will remain intact

GIPHY was created in 2013 with one simple goal in mind: to make communication more fun. Seven years and several billion GIFs later, the scope of our mission grows larger, but the goal remains the same. We've always wanted the way you express yourself to be more fun, more exciting… and maybe a little weirder.

GIPHY It is one of the largest databases of GIFs in the world. Until now we could find them in the animated stickers of Instagram Stories or in the search for GIFs in the direct messages of Instagram. However, from now on We may meet him more often because Facebook bought the company for $ 400 million. From the company's own press release they assure that the successes they have already had with Facebook are key to being sure that the new objectives will be ambitious.

From GIPHY they assure that the API that allows you to use your database in external applications will remain intact. The purchase by Facebook is not going to mean a privatization of the service or its closure. The team, he assures, will continue working so that the GIFs collected in its database "continue to be available to achieve a broader ecosystem."

Beyond these statements, Facebook integrates the entire GIPHY team under part of the Instagram team. This has been assured by the vice president of Facebook products in a statement, where he also ensures that the 50% of GIPHY traffic was obtained from Facebook apps:

Many people in our community already know and love GIPHY. In fact, 50% of GIPHY's traffic comes from the Facebook family of apps, half of that from Instagram alone.
