Who hasn't ever thought that folders would look better with their own icon instead of seeing the "mini-icons" of the applications they contain? At least I have thought about it on occasion, and since I have used FolderEnhancer even more so, since the icons look "all squeezed" inside the folder icon. That is precisely what FolderIcons does, a free app, available from BigBoss, and that allows you to change the background of the folders and add a new icon of those that it brings by default or those that you yourself create. We show you how it works.
Once the application is installed, press and hold on a folder icon so that they go into editing mode (shaking). In that mode you will see that now a cogwheel appears in the upper left corner. Click on it and the FolderIcons options window will open. There are two sections: Background (background) and Foreground (foreground). By clicking on each of them we can select the appearance we want to give to the folder. It is important that also let's configure well the options that are just below:
- Show thumbnails: it is recommended to deactivate it, so that it does not show the «mini-icons» of the applications that are inside the folder
- Show label: show the folder label
- Show badge: show notifications
What backgrounds and foreground images can I place? The application comes with some default ones, although the truth is they are quite poor. As for the background color, I prefer to leave it as it comes in iOS, so that when the wallpaper changes the background of the folder changes as well. You can create the images for the foreground yourself, just as I have done. They must be in png format, and the size of about 40 × 40 (for somewhat older iPads) so that it looks good, although I leave that to your discretion. If you want to use the icons that I created (the white ones), they are available in MEGA. As the application itself informs us, the backgrounds created must be placed in the “User/Media/FolderIcons/Backgrounds” path and the foreground images in “User/Media/FolderIcons/Foregrounds”.
Selecting the background image and the foreground is a bit delicate, you have to press well on the image and slide your finger a bit, or it will not detect that you have selected it. With a little practice it is easily achieved. A free and interesting tweak that not compatible with newer devices with A7 64-bit processor at the moment (iPhone 5s, iPad Air, iPad Mini Retina). I encourage you to share your creations.
More information - FolderEnhancer, adds more options to folders (Cydia)
eye, not compatible with iphone 5S
It should work, at least the captures are from a 5s ... what happens to me is that there are dependencies that it cannot install automatically and it does not install it on my 5s
although it is true that in the description it puts it ... let's see if when we publish a post at least we read the description of the tweak .. only for 32bit arm devices
As I have indicated above, it was my fault not to include it and it is now corrected. I'm sorry.
At least read the description? I have not only read the description, but I have tested it on my device, I have created my own icons to be able to put the images in the article, and I have shared them with whoever wants to download them.
Does it take so much work to be a little (just a little) nice in the comments and not always walk with the loaded shotgun?
By the way, I have deleted your other comment identical to this one, with an "at least" it was enough. 😉
Right, my fault not to include it in the article. It is already corrected. I'm sorry.
Do you know of any tweak that gives the Kiosk app in iOS7 the way it looked in iOS6 and earlier? Thanks
Is it normal that the foreground icon does not appear immediately when you select it? At the beginning, I had to respring to be able to see the icon in the folder. By the way now when respring is stuck in the apple and I have to enter safe mode and then restart it normally, does this happen to someone else? It is an iPad Mini (1st gen). By the way excellent tweak.
That is not normal ... it has not happened to me at least
Now it was resolved, it was a conflict with the nested folders option of springtomize 3
How are the icons that you have created added? you have given the route but the truth is I have no idea how or where I should look to get there ...
