Logitech POP Keys and Mouse, fun and functional

Logitech has released its latest keyboard and mouse fun, colorful and with emoji as the main protagonists, but do not be fooled that we are dealing with Logitech products, and that is synonymous with quality. We tested them and tell you our impressions.

Logitech POP are the new keyboards and mice from the well-known manufacturer that this time offers us fun, carefree products that are very different from what is usual in the brand, but without forgetting the quality and functionality of the products. With these new accessories for our Mac and iPad, Logitech not only wants your keyboard works well, but also attracts attention, and achieve both goals.

POP Keys and Mouse

The first thing that stands out about this keyboard and mouse is its colorful design. With its round keys, the keyboard Logitech POP Keys wants to remind you of old typewriters, that many of you who read this article will have seen only in photos. The POP Mouse also has a more retro design with those rounded shapes, very reminiscent of Logitech's Pebble models, simple but very efficient mice.

We have several color options when choosing our mouse and keyboard combination, all of which are very colorful and fun. Daydream, Heartbreaker and Blast are the three designs that we can choose from, and in this case I have decided on the Blast design, the most “aggressive” of the three. In all of them, the most identifying element of this keyboard stands out: the column of keys dedicated specifically to emoji, configurable through the application and with interchangeable keys.

If we leave behind the striking design of the keyboard, we find ourselves before the solidity and quality of Logitech keyboards, but on this occasion it should be noted that it is a wireless mechanical keyboard for our Mac or PC. It is a heavy keyboard, its 779 grams does not make it the best portable keyboard, it is more intended to be used at your work desk with all your devices. The connection to our computer can be done through Bluetooth or using the Logitech Bolt adapter (included in the keyboard), and thanks to the 2 batteries (AAA included) of the keyboard we will have up to 3 years of autonomy, fantastic. It has three memories, so we can link up to three devices and switch between them by pressing a simple button. It is compatible with Mac, Windows, iPadOS, iOS and Android.

The POP mouse also enjoys the same build quality, although it is much lighter. It is almost identical to the Logitech Pebble, although with more features. Logitech keeps the magnetic top case that we can easily remove to change the battery, and I personally love that option. It also has Bluetooth connectivity, and three memories that we can toggle through a dedicated button on the base.

Typing with POP Keys

I've been using a mechanical keyboard at home for a long time, and now I understand that "religion" that exists with this type of keyboards, I even understand something and the difference between Cherry Red, Brown and Blue. For many this may sound Chinese, but I guarantee that once you try a mechanical keyboard, you will not use a membrane keyboard again unless you are forced to. Logitech has opted for a few Mechanisms similar to Cherry MX Brown, perhaps the most balanced and silent mechanisms, with the aim of having a keyboard for the majority of users.

The feeling when using the keyboard is fantastic for someone already used to using the mechanical keyboard, it will not be so if you are not used to it. Despite being a "silent" mechanism, it makes more noise than with membrane keyboards, and the key travel is greater. ANDIt's a strange feeling that you have to get used to and give it some time. To this we must add the round shape of the keys, which means that until your fingers acquire the necessary memory, on some occasions you will press the wrong key.

After several weeks using the keyboard and with the advantage of already being a mechanical keyboard user, this Logitech POP Keys is an excellent alternative for those looking for a keyboard of this type without further complications. The typing experience is really good, and there is only one thing that prevents me from considering it as a main keyboard: it is not backlit. Too bad Logitech didn't want to add this feature to this keyboard. It is something that many of you may not care about, but for others it is something fundamental.

The typing position is comfortable, despite the fact that it does not have legs to be able to adjust the height. The very design of the keyboard places it with an inclination that for my taste is adequate. I have spent quite a few hours typing on this keyboard, and the feeling of fatigue is less than with conventional membrane keyboards, and much less than with the keyboard of my MacBook Pro.

I have not forgotten the keys dedicated to emoji, a key element of the keyboard from the moment we opened the box, but one more function for some, like me. I use emoji like everyone else: social networks, messaging, on Discord where we have our community of users, etc. It would never have occurred to me to add dedicated emoji keys, even though there are 3 that I use 99% of the time. It seems to me a curious functionality, even fun and I like the aesthetics of the keyboard with the emoji on the right side. Logitech also allows you to configure them from the app for Windows and macOS, and the keyboard has several replacement keys with other emoji.

Personally I don't think it is the most important function of the keyboard, far from it, but it is there and if even I, who am not the target audience of this keyboard, use it, I am sure that there will be people who will like this functionality. love it You have four individual emoji keys and one at the bottom to open the emoji window and manually choose the one you want. Everything is configurable, you can even give it other functions than emoji if you wish.

And the mouse? Pop Mouse is a basic mouse, with good functionality, with good precision, very light, with good button clicks, very quiet (you won't notice the click when you press), and with a scroll wheel that works frankly well. The button just below the scroll wheel is the one you can dedicate to emoji, either to select an individual one or to open the emoji window directly and manually choose the one you want. Or to give it another function using the computer application.

Logitech Options, a fantastic app

To the excellent qualities of Logitech keyboards and mice, we must add their configuration software. Logitech Options, available for both Windows and macOS (link) allows you to configure your keyboards and mice, and customize many of their buttons to execute the functions you use most in your day to day. The Logi POP keyboard comes with a whole top row of special function keys for media playback, screenshot, volume control, etc. But if you want, you can add other functions to it, and in a couple of clicks. You can do the same with the mouse.

The application also allows you to update the firmware of the devices, modify the movement of the mouse pointer, and a very practical functionality for those who use several computers at the same time: Logitech Flow lets you move from one computer to another easily, even if they are from different platforms (Windows and macOS), by moving the mouse cursor to the edge of the screen, similar to the Universal Control that Apple just released in macOS and iPadOS. You can also transfer files from one to another by dragging them from one screen to another.
