Pipper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster has presented a report for his investors in which he assures something that nobody expects: in March, Apple will launch a new Apple Watch, but it will be a Models". As you all know from the iPhone case, Apple launches a new model with the same design as the previous year but with improved internal components, such as the camera or the 3D Touch screen of the iPhone 6s. But does what Munster says make sense?
The analyst says that this "S" model will have a design similar to the current one with updated components, like the processor, battery and new straps. He also says that it seems unlikely to include a radio, something that you do not have to be a seer to guess, since not even the iPhone has a built-in radio. Looking at it, I think (and wish) that Mr. Munster is wrong.
There was no iPhone S. There will be no Apple Watch S
Apple releases an "iPhone x" and an "iPhone xS" every two years. Sure. But to add the famous "S", a number was added first. The first iPhone was logically called "iPhone." The second already received the name of "iPhone 3G" and it was not until the third generation that the "S" was added to the "iPhone 3GS". Regarding marketing, can you imagine Apple launching the "Apple Watch S". Doesn't seem very likely.
Yes, there is the remote possibility that they will launch a new review, as they have done, for example, with the Apple TV. But these small revisions are not presented in a Keynote, so it does not seem likely that they will name it at the March event.
There is also no iPad or iPod S
The Apple Watch is the penultimate, or last if we count the iPad Pro as a tablet, the flagship device of the company directed by Tim Cook. These devices do not usually receive reviews, if not new versions that may present and get the attention of investors.
La "S" is the letter used next to the iPhone. Point. At first it was used to name the iPhone 3G as fast (Speed) and the iPhone 4 as Siri. With the rest, although it has also been said that the "S" of the iPhone 5s would come for "Sensors", it has already been for not changing the habit. That said, the iPad has always changed in number until the arrival of the Air model. But are they going to call such a lightweight device "Apple Watch Air", "Apple Watch Pro" or something like that? Again, it seems unlikely.
Another possibility is that they use a different letter than "S", but it would not look good either, nor do I think they will start doing this from the second model, as I have already mentioned above.
An Apple Watch 2 is coming, but not in March
What we all expect is an Apple Watch 2. This second model, according to all but Gene Munster, will have a camera to answer video calls from the watch, you will have new sensors And they probably have improved their autonomy, but they can't do this that fast and you won't be ready for March.
What are also expected are new accessories for the first model of the apple watch, such as new Hermès straps, the belt Black Milanese or a new range of Sport straps with new colors.
I hope the Pipper Jaffray analyst is wrong. The Apple Watch and the users who might consider purchasing it in the future deserve more than what your report assures us.
The s was for SPEED, because of how fast the processor was in the iPhone, how fast the wifi was, how fast to put in new high-speed 3G bands. I do think they can do a Watch s, who knows but I do think they will make an update and not a renewal, in a renewal it would be Watch 2 and it is very soon I think. But for an update yes.
Not at all, the watch is a green product so to speak, just like the first iPhone was, which did not have S either, so I think that the next will be the 2, to establish a good watch and because we deserve it, as well as deserves the 2 and not an «s».
What Apple is going to present will surely be more models in bracelet colors or even watches, and perhaps but I don't think that this so advanced would be "smart bands", smart straps, with camera, more battery, GPS, etc for different purposes " businesswomen, sports, photography, medical, etc. I think Apple is headed there, and the hidden port of the watch is for something else!
After all, in my opinion, I think it would be important to have a built-in GPS.
