Genius, as they call themselves, is the largest encyclopedia of music providing the lyrics, stories and curiosities of the songs in their service.
You might know it from Spotify, which has been with Genius services built in for a long time. Now, It will also be available to Apple Music users directly from the app contributing the lyrics of thousands of songs to the Apple Music service.
The main part of agreement between Apple Music and Genius is that Apple Music has become the official player for songs played on Genius, both in the websites as in the iOS app. This service is now available and we can listen to part (if we are not Apple Music users) or all (if we are subscribers and log in) of the songs directly from Genius web or app.
Ben Gross (Genius) states the following:
"We are proud to make Apple Music our official music player, and we are doubly excited to bring Genius lyrics to their amazing [Apple Music] platform".
Genius not only provides the lyrics of the songs, but also they strive to add curiosities, stories and information to each song, what they call "Behind the lyrics" (beyond the lyrics). All this synchronized to read it while we listen to the song in question.
Just as Apple Music services are already in Genius, it seems that lGenius information and database is yet to come to Apple Music.
On Spotify, where Genius - "Behind the lyrics" is available for certain songs, they have the service built right into the song covers. In my opinion, a somewhat intrusive integration -especially because it is activated by default and, even deactivating it, it continues to appear in the background- and that I hope Apple knows how to manage in a cleaner way.
