GIFs come to WhatsApp, with certain limitations

gif whatsapp

On October 31 we received an update, which was not the most anticipated, since as our colleagues who test the WhatsApp beta have reported, video calls and the GIF search engine are just around the corner. However, what if has started to enable the WhatsApp development team are the GIFs stored on the reel, or those that we obtain by copying links, such as through Gboard. Come in and we'll tell you how the new GIFs system works on WhatsApp, the prelude to a future big update.

We already know what WhatsApp developers like to hide nice features like this that they then activate remotely. So, I dedicated myself to storing the odd GIF on the reel. When I was about to send a photo this morning I saw the precious logo "GIF" in the letters. Indeed, when it was sent it was moving. So we keep investigating and we realize that these are the three ways to send a GIF through WhatsApp for iOS:

  • Save a GIF in the Camera Roll from Safari and send it as usual by WhatsApp.
  • Copy the link of a GIF from Safari and send it as a message.
  • Use Gboard, copy a GIF and paste it into the text box.

We also leave you a video of our colleague Luis about how to send GIFs using WhatsApp in the easiest and fastest way.

That's how easy you can share the best GIFs through WhatsApp, it was about time. The GIF of David Bisbal doing the cobra to Chenoa is already going around the world quickly because of this new function. On the other hand, We emphasize that this is not the big update we were waiting for, one that will include a GIF search engine and that will also allow us to make video calls through WhatsApp, which will be a tough stick for Skype and FaceTime. Enjoy, and leave us in the comments your best GIFs.
