Google does not throw in the towel: buy Cronologics to improve Android Wear

Chronologics

If there's one thing we've learned about smartphones, it's that, at least right now, they're not devices designed for everyone. There are few smart watches or their systems that are coming forward, and among them is the Apple Watch as the best general smartwatch, Fitbit and some similar bracelets as sports quantifiers and, to add some more, the recently ceased Pebble and the Samsung Gear. What about Android Wear? It is not very clear, but it has already been confirmed that Google has bought Cronologics with the intention of improving its operating system for smartwatches.

Cronolgics herself has confirmed the acquisition of their company by Google on their website, where they remind us that they began their adventure in 2014 «as a platform for diverse and smart watches«. Another of the tasks that Cronologics will have with respect to the operating system for Google smart watches is help with Android Wear 2.0 and all search engine smartwatch systems to be released in the future. And we remember that Android Wear 2.0 has been available to developers for a long time, but there is still no official launch date scheduled.

Cronologics will help with Android Wear 2.0 onwards

The Cronologics team has made their way back and forth: they left Google and Android to create their own start-up whose product was a Android-based operating system for smartwatches, Google has seen that what they were doing was good and they have re-signed them to improve their own operating system for smart watches.

But what is the problem with Android Wear? On the one hand, what I commented at the beginning of this post: smart watches are not designed for all users. On the other hand, the brands that launched the first and the best Android Wear watches have not launched new models recently, which suggests that they have not received the reception they expected. Unlike the Apple Watch and its perfect integration with the entire Apple ecosystem, Android Wear is a very young operating system that still has a long way to go, especially if we take into account the fragmentation resulting from being able to install the system on practically any watch with any hardware.

It seems like, Cronologics has been working with Google for some time, or so we can think if we consider that Android Wear 2.0 has many similarities with the Cronologics operating system. In any case, the only thing I can say is that I hope that Google is betting heavily on the smartwatch market so that Apple does not rest on its laurels.
