Google decides to stop supporting YouTube on certain devices

According to the guys at Google, this modification is due to changes in the API, older iPhones, iPods, iPads and Apple TV will be affected and from now on they will no longer be able to access YouTube videos. This includes backward second-generation Apple TVs and Apple devices made in 2012. The software is advancing by leaps and bounds, and having a 3-year-old device can sometimes be considered too old for certain multinationals.

The YouTube app has simply disappeared from the home screen on second-generation Apple TVs, making it impossible for the owners of this device to access any option in the settings menu that allows them to show or hide said App along with the rest of the channels. Therefore, we will no longer be able to find any information about YouTube settings on second-generation Apple TVs.

If you are using a second-generation or older Apple TV, unfortunately there is no longer any way to view YouTube content on these devices.

YouTube previously warned developers of this move with the intention of dropping API V2, so now any incompatible device will not be able to access the service in question.

As we increase the YouTube API we can add more features to it, improving the service at the same time, and therefore we will begin closing the old version as of April 20, 2015. This will mean that the current YouTube application will not works on certain devices from 2012 or older.

This is the list of devices that are leaving or are being affected:

  • Certain Sony Smart-TVs and Blu-Ray Players
  • Certain Panasonic Smart-TVs and Blu-Ray Players
  • sony playstation vita
  • IOS 5 or lower devices
  • First and second generation Apple TV

For some, it may be time to renew their devices. We do not like these types of measures, but we must always bear in mind that it is the basis of change. On the other hand, we may not need changes in such leaps and bounds.

And with a software update, that will not be fixed, speaking in the case of smart TVs, which are not so easy to renew a mobile, or in the case that they are more difficult to sell than a mobile.

That is very bad that they update everything they want but users of older generations should be able to see YouTube and not have to buy a product that they have already bought from the brand that leave it for new users.
