Kalashnikov from assault rifles captured from the Germans, so the name may match the date of the design. The 74 updates materials, reduces weight and recoil and, above all, reduces caliber. The bullet from the original went through you and 20 iPhones cleanly. With the new caliber, I suppose they wanted to look for the effect of the NATO ammunition, which does not go through you but instead, when it hits a rib or something, it changes the direction, managing to cause a lot of internal damage.
