How to set up the new Night Mode in iOS 9.3

Night-mode

Apple has introduced an interesting novelty in iOS 9.3: a new night mode with which using our iPhone at night will interfere less with our sleep by changing the tonality of the screen to warmer colors. This new "Night Shift Mode" allows us to let iOS decide when to make those changes or schedule them to our custom schedules. How does it work? We explain it to you below.

Night-mode

The settings for this new function are in Settings> Screen and brightness. There a new submenu appears in which we can activate the blue light reduction manually using the switch on the right or predefining a schedule other than three options:

  • No: it is manual operation. We will be the ones who manually activate or deactivate this night mode using the switch in this menu
  • From sunrise to sunset: iOS will be the one that activates and deactivates the night mode according to our location and the time of day in which we are.
  • Custom schedule: define the hours at which you want the night mode to be activated and when you want it to be deactivated.

There is also a bar in which sliding the button to the right or left we will define the tone that we want the screen to have towards warmer tones (right) or cold (left) who are supposed to be responsible for causing problems with our sleep.

One last detail that is important to remember. For you to see the automatic configuration option for iOS you must allow access to location and time zone in Settings> Privacy> Location. If not, you will only find the possibility of manual configuration, defining the mode activation and deactivation times yourself. Also remember that we explain the basics of this new night mode in this article, in case you are interested in knowing what its scientific basis is.
