How to infinitely zoom a photo in iOS 12

One of the features I least like about The Photos app on the iPhone (and iPad and Mac) is that it doesn't let you zoom as much as you want.

It is true that with poor image quality, getting too close makes the image just blurry colors, but it sure does we have all wanted, equally, to zoom in on an image at some point.

Normally, we would resort to one of the most homemade tricks of all. Crop the image in the Photos app by pressing "Edit" and the crop icon to get a smaller image, but where you can apply more zoom.

We don't have to do that anymore - at least for now - since iOS now allows infinite zoom, but it is not a new function, nor an option that you should enable, it is a bug. An error in the app that allows us to zoom as much as we want in an image after trying to edit it.

To reproduce the error and achieve infinite zoom you must follow the following steps:

  • Go to the Photos app from your iPhone or iPad (it doesn't work in the Photos app for macOS).
  • Open the image in which you want to zoom beyond the limit that normal iOS leaves you.
  • Click on "Edit”, To open the editor of said image.
  • Go to the menu of trim and orient (the icon of a square with arrows surrounding it).
  • Slightly change the dimension image (we simply need the "ok" button to turn yellow).
  • We press "ok".
  • When exiting the menu it will allow us to do infinite zoom in the image.

Sure Apple fixes -what they understand is an operating system bug- in future versions of iOS 13, but until then it is a useful trick that we can use in a simple way.
