How to free up space on your iPhone or iPad easily

These are not good times for the 16GB devices that Apple continues to insist on selling us: applications that take up more and more space, high definition movies, 4K videos ... Even the largest capacity devices are sometimes seen with almost full space. Much of the data that is stored on our device is "junk" that the system automatically deletes when needed, but sometimes we would like to be able to do this cleaning ourselves. We are going to explain how to do it with a very simple trick.

On any device, storage is limited and does not appear out of nowhere, but there are essential data that cannot be deleted, and others that are completely expendable. Temporary files of the system or of the applications themselves that are saved to be able to access them more quickly without having to wait for them to be downloaded from the Internet, but when the time comes they can be eliminated if the system deems it appropriate. In iOS we do not have a tool that allows us to do it manually, but it is the system itself that does it when it deems necessary. But we can provoke him to do so: by making him think we need more space. How do we do that? Well, downloading something that exceeds our available storage.

Cleaning

To know the available storage we will access Settings> General> Storage and iCloud and there it will be indicated (5,8GB in our example). If we want to free up more space we will have to look for something very heavy, and nothing better than a movie like "The Godfather", over 8GB in size. We go to iTunes and click on renting the movie. Rest assured because as you do not have space, the download will not occur and therefore the rental price will not be charged. We will see the message that you see on the screen and that tells us that there is not enough space so it cannot be downloaded.

If we now go to the springboard of our iPhone or iPad we will see that some application icons appear shadowed, with the text "Cleaning ..." just below them. After a few seconds, if we access the settings again to see the available space we will see that surprisingly we have more space, depending on the "garbage" that we have stored. In our example we have been freed up almost 5GB by "magic art".
