I do the same and spending much less, the solution is the Teflon that is sold in any hardware store and that is presented in a rust like that of any insulating tape, being also white. With this I wrap the ends of the lightning cables as far as necessary and once the broken plastic of the cable has been healed, then I cut the excess and at the end of the Teflon I make a point of instant glue so that it never comes off, then I pass carefully the flame of a lighter all over the Teflon so that the heat adjusts it to perfection on the entire surface where it has been used, then I use a damp cloth to clean the soot and there is a NEW lightning cable!
