Last week, Twitter announced something that personally surprised me: the closure of Vine. From the looks of it, this news couldn't have come at a better time for its original creators, who have announced the launch of HYPE, a new application that will allow us broadcast live video, with the difference that it includes special tools that we can use in our broadcast so that our audience can see its effects in real time.
The creators of Vine believed that the experience with existing applications could be improved and they decided to launch HYPE, an application that at first is very reminiscent of Periscope, also owned by Twitter. But the truth is that Periscope only allows us to broadcast video, which can greatly limit the content, especially if we are not famous like Gerard Piqué.
What does HYPE offer us?
- Broadcast our story live, in real time, using tools to create an image, feel, and tone that fit our broadcast.
- Incorporate photos, videos and GIFs from our reel, play music directly from the iTunes library and add text, emoji or backgrounds.
- Get creative in how our broadcast is presented by changing the size of our image layer. We can choose between appearing in full screen, in small or disappearing completely to focus the audience's attention on another objective.
- The audience can interact with us by asking or answering questions, taking surveys or sharing feedback. They can also express their feelings by tapping on a part of the broadcast on the screen, which sends a glow to the broadcast.
- We can mark audience comments as favorites.
- The audience can share what they are watching with friends so they can join in real time. Content creators can save their broadcasts for later viewing.
Personally, I think that HYPE can offer much more than Periscope, but the same thing as with WhatsApp is likely to happen- There are many better messaging apps, but WhatsApp was the first and now it's hard for someone to take the crown from you. Do you think HYPE will be as successful as Vine did in its day?
