IPhone users run out of WhatsApp web client

Whatsapp web client

Yesterday WhatsApp launched its web client, something that will allow us to use the most popular messaging client today from our computer. However, the news was accompanied by a series of restrictions that have surprised many users, especially those of us who have an iPhone.

Apparently, the way in which this web client has been implemented is incompatible with iOS. The way it is conceived multitasking on the iPhone has been a limitation important when developing the WhatsApp web client. In the WhatsApp blog we can see a brief explanation for iOS users:

Unfortunately, we are currently unable to offer WhatsApp Web for our iOS users due to limitations from Apple.

What's the point of leaving iPhone users out? None. The most curious thing about this story is that from WhatsApp they throw the ball to Apple's roof because of its limitations, but why other messaging clients have web clients and native computer applications? Have they been able to get around Apple's limitations or is it that they have done their homework better?

Surely we will end up using WhatsApp from the browser even with iOS but it is clear that it won't be short term. We will have to wait or migrate to other apps like Telegram.

Meanwhile, only users who have the Chrome browser on their computer and have a mobile phone with Android, Windows Phone, BB, BB10 and Nokia S60 will be able to use WhatsApp Web. If you meet these requirements, here is a guide to using and configuring WhatsApp Web.

What a bigger shit the Facebook guys have made. They leave out the only company that supported WhatsApp as soon as it came out through the App Store.

Understanding the limitations requires a minimal understanding of how they have implemented the system to use a web browser, how WhatsApp works, and how unreal "multitasking" works on iOS.
I would not expect an iOS version that works with this system as long as Apple does not change or improve its multitasking. And that would be minimal on iOS9

All platforms except iOS, very good ... let's do the same. There are no valid excuses for this, they have done it on purpose and it is disrespectful. And if not, look at LINE or Telegram, both multiplatform openly or not to sleep.

I'm just saying that for a web application that needs the essential use of the mobile with the app turned on it doesn't make any sense, for that I don't think a web app is necessary either, when they are up to native applications like LINE or TELEGRAM it will be worth it. .

Hope that in a short time they have said that they put publicity…. Come on, let's do a massive and go to telegram! ... they have closed us whatsapp plus and people are doing that ... spread the word ... telegram is the future ...

The main mobile operating system already has a web version of WhatsApp.
      That is Android.

It is due to the way WhatsApp is implemented ... None of us here know the architecture they use, how their servers work or anything. What we do know is that to use WhatsApp a phone number is essential and that is why the botch of WhatsApp Web (because it is a botch) is nothing more than an interface but messages are still being sent from the phone ...
    Is it well mounted? NO
Were there other alternatives considering its architecture? We don't know, but I don't think they did it that way for fun
Are they to blame for everything? NO. In android it works, so if it is true about the limitations of iOS regarding its multitasking

You have to be up to date with new technologies and with iPhone you are not.

Sorry? It's WhatsApp's fault, not Apple's. Because Telegram also has a web version and it works perfect

    2.    Jose Luis Nieto Notary said

iOS is the only one that does not have whatsapp Web because Apple and the multiplatform like no, so the ball is in Apple's court

    3.    Freivin Campbell said

haha what a shame it gives me, we have to be at the cutting edge with technology and that with Apple we are not ... I think rather we have so much security and autonomy and because of the detail we are not yet able to have it =)

    4.    Jose Luis Nieto Notary said

Freivin I do not know what you mean by autonomy but it is clear that battery life is not hahaha I leave you why it is not for iOS and it will not be in the medium short term. http://es.gizmodo.com/exclusiva-por-que-whatsapp-web-no-esta-en-ios-ni-lo-e-1680954309

That's why I switched to Android after being 4 years with iPhone ... Those of whatsapp are not to blame. iOS is very close. Since I discovered Android, God has not taken me out of there and told you an apple fanboy with an iMac and two iPads

What is the point of a whatsapp website if it depends on the phone being charged, having the app open and having to be connected to the internet ???

  20.   Cucumber Molina Colonel said

Surely it was because of the publication they made about telegram, but the truth is that it is better

  21.   Kike martinez said

    there is wrong

  22.   djchucky38 said

Well, there will be that going to telegram is the best application

The problem is that ios does not have real multitasking and for WhatsApp to work it needs to run in the background. IOS only allows to do very few things in multitasking.

  24.   atron said

Very good for gizmodo, for the great explanation and for the journalistic "work" they have done ... Not like here, which seems like a salvame de luxe in Apple version.
Seriously, it is that even Nacho is not saved.

    1.    Nacho said

Hello Atron, since you have named me I will answer you. I am not a journalist and I do not pretend to be, in addition, most people are not interested in knowing if WhatsApp does not work for any reason or is only compatible with a certain number of browsers.

Either it works or it doesn't work, that's what it all comes down to. On the other hand, in this post I limit myself to publishing the information given by WhatsApp on its official website. It is not a research article, it does not claim to be and that is why the limitations of iOS multitasking are mentioned above.

      A greeting!

It will have to do with how they put it IOS does not have real multitasking as it does not have real widgets. As a possessor of iphone 6 and Ipad Air it bothers me more that they try to deceive me by telling me that if they have the limitation of not having them in themselves. Yes, I like them and I always use them on my android devices because they are very useful, although to be honest I can live without them without going into depression.
