In Apple's early years, the enemy of the company that Steves Jobs and Wozniak founded had a name: IBM. But those are things of the past. Currently, Apple e IBM They collaborate on some projects and the New York company is even going to use the programming language that the company led by Tim Cook presented at the 2014 WWDC Keynote, Swift. The movement aims to simplify application development end-to-end and it will make IBM the first cloud provider to develop native applications on Swift.
IBM claims to be one of the biggest users from Swift for mobile application development. The New York company says its understanding of Swift and the knowledge to help businesses maximize the "true potential" for Swift-based servers. According to IBM, using Swift on your servers will remove development barriers front-end y Back-end.
IBM will use Swift
There are three ways developers can use Swift in the IBM cloud:
- Swift sandbox experiments. This will allow you to experiment with Swift, a programming language that has recently been made open source, and learn what this language from Apple can offer your company by checking out the new improvements to Swift Sandbox.
- Develop and deploy. This would allow them to create applications end-to-end on Bluemix and deploy them quickly with Kitura, a new open source web server released by IBM, on both OS X and Linux.
- Share Swift resources. This would allow them to share code through package creation and presentation projects in Swift Package Catalog on Bluemix and new Swift resources with the global developer community.
Swift Server will also allow developers to have a simpler and safer work tool for creating end-to-end applications. This is all another step in the relationship that Apple and IBM currently have and in which last December they laid the foundations for the rapid development of Swift in the cloud, when Apple made Swift open source and IBM presented a simpler way to developers to start writing browser-based code.
