You already know that Apple Pay has started working after the arrival of iOS 8.1. In Spain we cannot activate the service yet since there are no establishments or entities collaborating with Apple in our territory, however, there is the possibility of deceiving the iPhone 6 with a simple trick so that it gives us immediate access to the Apple Pay configuration menu .
We simply have to go to the Settings menu> General> Language and region and once there, we change the region of our iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus to the United States. This process will immediately make Apple Pay is enabled within the Passbook app. You just have to click on the "+" button to bring up the option to add a valid credit card, something that is currently restricted to those from the American territory.
If we have a US card, we can start using Apple Pay normally but if this is not our case, the only thing we can do is enter the configuration menu and try to add our credit card. The assistant works very well and allows us to add the data manually or using the iPhone 6 camera, so they will be incorporated automatically.
Unfortunately, an Apple Pay notice will tell us that the card we are trying to add not yet compatible with the service. Hopefully this payment method begins to have more presence in Europe, so we can make use of this technology as we show you these videos.
Just as a doubt, even if you have a US card, Apple Pay could not be used in Spain because the shops are not adapted?
Thanks. Very good article.
Sincerely I dont know. The theory says yes because the credit card is compatible with the bank that issued it. What I understand is that if you can pay with that card in Spain, you can also use Apple Pay with it. If the card is not accepted in any Spanish merchant, Apple Pay will not work either.
The part that I do not know is the operation of credit cards abroad, maybe someone can solve this concern. Greetings!
From what I just saw, Apple Pay works with unadapted dataphones (that is, with any device that accepts NFC) and anywhere in the world as long as the card you add is from the US. Here is the test where they have tested it outside the US: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9PRYphuCLc
Regards!
My suspicions are confirmed then. I did know that the current POS terminals were compatible with the iPhone 6, but I was left wondering about foreign cards outside their territory. Thanks Danfg95!
