iFixit breaks apart the iPhone 7 Plus and reveals its secrets

It is one of the most anticipated moments when a new iPhone is launched: the iFixit teardown. The well-known website is always responsible for disassembling Apple terminals to tell us their internal secrets, the materials that Apple has used and the reason for some changes that until then were inexplicable. Now it has been the turn of the iPhone 7 Plus, the 5,5-inch model, and reveals an interior with many changes compared to the previous model. Battery, haptic motor, camera ... many elements are those that have changed and we will tell you about them below.

iFixit tells us that the cutting process is very similar to previous models, with the classic "Pentalobe" screws, but curiously, it points out that once the screws are removed, the front of the iPhone 7 Plus separates to the side, so different from what happened in previous models, perhaps due to the new water resistance of this new smartphone. What happened to the headphone jack? Well, the controversial removal of the classic connector for our lifelong headphones has left room for the haptic engine of the iPhone 7, that small component that makes the vibration of the iPhone different from the conventional one and that will also give us the sensation of clicking when pressing the start button when there is really no movement. This could have been one of the reasons for the removal of the headphone jack, although the fact that there is also a protective plastic in that place points to water resistance, again, as another of the most important reasons. That piece of plastic conducts the sound, it seems to take it to the microphone or to take it out of the haptic motor.

One of the data that most interests iPhone users is the battery of the new device. Apple announced us in its Keynote a battery life up to 1 hour longer in the iPhone 7 Plus compared to the iPhone 6s Plus. This will be due in large part to the fact that the battery of the new terminal has a greater capacity than that of the previous model, specifically 2915mAh compared to the 2750mAh of the 6s Plus. It remains to be seen how this battery behaves in daily use and if the additional 60 minutes that Apple promises are real. The double camera, without a doubt the great novelty of the iPhone 7 Plus and that also differentiates it from the 4,5-inch model, has been a reason for praise by iFixit, ensuring that "almost makes the camera protrusion worthwhile" that we remember makes the back of the iPhone not totally flat. In this model, that projection is achieved with the iPhone's own aluminum structure, also to achieve water resistance.

iFixit confirms Samsung's 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM, and a Lightning connector that is much better built than its predecessor, with insulation that is capable of withstanding up to 50m of water, something much higher than what Apple at first certifies that it is only 1 meter. There is more evidence everywhere for water resistance, with rubber pieces serving as insulation in many components, such as the nanoSIM tray. The front speaker also changes, since it now has a double mission: serve as a loudspeaker for calls and a loudspeaker to listen to music or any other multimedia file next to the one located at the bottom and thus achieve for the first time that an iPhone has stereo sound.

Hopefully it is not as fragile as all the previous ones, I think it is a great deal to sell parts, such as the display, the touch etc. And if they break, the water will surely get in ...
