IKEA updates its smart light bulbs to support them with HomeKit [Update: Not yet]

We told you a few months ago, the arrival of smart devices to IKEA, the famous Swedish brand of home furnishings at prices economic. And it is that equipping our house with intelligence is something that is fashionable, we carry with us smart devices, smartphones, so why not use them to control the other devices that inhabit our house.

As we said, IKEA plays the role of being a cheap manufacturer, something that makes its new smart devices, specifically its smart light bulbs, much more attractive. Called TRADFRI and we are before smart bulbs from the Swedish giant, some bulbs that we talked about a few months ago and that have just received a new firmware that just made them fully compatible with HomeKit. After the jump we give you all the details of these IKEA TRADFRI.

As you know, the fact that they are compatible with HomeKit means that you can use Crab and the app Home of your iDevices to control them, No more having to use the IKEA app designed for TRADFRIs (which you can also continue using), now everything is much more comfortable since it will be enough that configure the different rooms that you have in the Home app so that later you can ask Siri to turn on the lights in one room or another.

The TRADFRI that have a price of $9,99, although you will also have to get hold of the HUB that you will get with the entry kit for 79.99 euros. Once you have the entry kit you will only have to add the bulbs you need. Some bulbs that at the moment only allow us the "extra" to modify their brightness, but that in October we will see for sale together with new bulbs with color variations. Great news since these TRADFRIs may be the forerunners of the sale of cheaper devices with HomeKit.

UPGRADE: Sorry, the guys at IKEA just posted on their social media that TRADFRI is not compatible with HomeKit at the moment, the firmware update is very close but is not available at the moment.

Several news related to TRADFRI compatibility have been published today. We want to inform that TRADFRI is not currently compatible with Apple, Amazon, or Google. The plan is for these matches to be ready during the next fall. Sorry for the confusion.
