iOS 10 leaves more free space than its predecessors

iOS-10-iPhone

Good news for owners of devices with limited storage: iOS 10 leaves more free space for the user. At least that is what happens with the first Beta released last Monday. This was published by a Reddit user, who showing the image of the information screen of your device before and after updating to iOS 10 shows us how it has gone from having 70GB free to now having 80,5GB free. A considerable size increase that can be a relief for users of 16GB models, which still exist and in large numbers.

The reasons why this occurs are not clear and Apple has not commented on the matter. The first possibility is obvious: iOS 10 occupies less as a system, and that is why it leaves us more free space to use it. Apple could have managed to shrink its operating system to the maximum and thus occupy as little as possible. It is surprising to know that all the applications that Apple brings us installed on our iPhone and iPad and that we can now hide do not occupy more than 150MB, as Apple itself has confirmed these days. Other possibilities could be the use of another way to quantify the space (instead of using the traditional 1024 system to use 1000), or that you have already implemented the new APFS file system that you will implement on your iOS devices and computers soon.

Be that as it may, we will have to wait for the official version of iOS 10 to be released to know exactly the final size that the entire operating system will have and thus be able to know if we have more free space on our device or if it has just been a mirage, like so many things that appear in the first Betas and then disappear never to return. We will stay tuned.
