iOS 12 brings the Spanish language to HomePod and many more news

Apple's smart speaker, the HomePod, also enjoys interesting news with iOS 12, but one of them stands out above the rest, especially for those of us who have Spanish as the main language: the HomePod finally speaks in Spanish.

The new update that Apple has just released will make your HomePod also update to iOS 12, since it uses a modified version of the same operating system that our iPhone and iPad have. This update is now available and brings the aforementioned Spanish language but also other important news that we tell you next.

It has been several months of waiting but the HomePod will arrive in Spain and Mexico in October, and with the start of the sale in these countries it was to be expected that compatibility with Spanish would also arrive. The update has not been long in coming and we can now give the instructions to our HomePod in Spanish, with different variants according to our country: Spanish from the United States, Mexico and Spain.

It also brings the following news:

  • Shortcut SupportThe new iOS 12 application, a replacement for Workflow, will allow you to run shortcuts with your HomePod to perform tasks that Siri cannot do on its own.
  • Possibility of making and receiving calls- Now you can tell your HomePod to call one of your contacts or the number you provide. In addition, if you are at home, the call will go directly to the HomePod so that you can answer it from the same speaker.
  • Multiple timers- You can set multiple timers for HomePod to notify you when they are done. Something especially useful for cooking or doing other tasks at home.
  • Search my Iphone: If you are one of those who leave your iPhone anywhere and do not know where it is, you can tell your HomePod to make it ring to find it.
  • Searching for songs by lyrics: now you can tell your HomePod to look for the song to which the letter you indicate corresponds. This feature is only available in English.

To update your HomePod you will only have to wait for it to do it automatically, or you can force the update from the Home app, within its Settings. We explain how to do it in this article.

Still not multi-user? It was rumored that with iOS 12 the Multiuser would arrive.

It seems absurd to me that a speaker used at home can only be connected to an iPhone and therefore can only be used by one person. In my house we are several people with iPhone and each one of us has our music and playlists, and if only one iPhone can be linked, it can only play the music of one member of the house.

I really want the Homepod, but if that function does not arrive I will look at some Sonos.
