iOS 14 will bring personal recommendations and bonus content to Podcasts

Less than a week before the official presentation of iOS 14 at WWDC 2020 Another leak arrives about one of the news that it will include, and this time it is related to the Podcasts application, which will include a new "for you" section and extra content.

iOS 14 is expected to come from the hand of a good number of news, as we already told you in this article, and to this list we must add one more that affects the Podcasts application. As revealed by 9to5Mac, Apple's native application to listen to podcasts on our devices will include a new "For you" section with recommendations for podcasts based on the ones you usually listen to. As you subscribe and listen to different podcasts, the application will know your tastes and will offer you other content programs that you may like. It is a function similar to the one we already have in the Music application and with which you can discover new podcasts that you might never find otherwise.

In addition to this new section, 9to5Mac tells us that podcast authors they will be able to add extra content to their episodes, similar to what we find in iTunes when we buy a movie. These extra content will not be included in the same section as the original podcasts, although we can find it in the same podcast feed. It remains for us to know how the authors can include these special bonuses, even if they may be paid content. The possible monetization of podcasts on iTunes has been talked about for a long time, and this could be one way to achieve it.

The emergence of Spotify in the world of podcasting is taking away the role of Apple Podcasts, and in many countries it has already surpassed the Apple platform in listeners. Spotify bets on exclusive content, while Apple for the moment opts for an open platform in which all content is free and also indexable by any third-party podcast application, something that to many of us seems the essence of podcasting and that we hope will not change.
