How to enjoy iOS 10.2 emoji on iOS 9 [Jailbreak]

Emoji

One of the (few) novelties that came along with the launch of iOS 10.2 they were a good handful of new emoji, among which in my opinion stand out in the paella (with peas ...), the pinocchio or liar, the man dancing and the laugh with his face bowed. Having more ways to express yourself is always a good thing, but the problem is that to use a new pack of these icons you usually have to install a new version of iOS. Or is it not necessary?

Well no, it is not always necessary to update to use the new features of a more recent version of iOS. This is something that users of the jailbreak And, as the owner of this article indicates, this post is intended for users who have their iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad "escaped from jail", in some version of iOS 9 and want to use the new "emoticons" that came to iOS with the release of iOS 10.2. Here we explain how to get it.

How to install iOS 10.2 emoji on iOS 9.x

  1. We open Cydia.
  2. We go to the Sources tab.
  3. We tap on Edit and then on Add. We have to do this twice to add the following repositories:
  4. If we did not have it installed, we look for BytaFont 3 and installed it. It is in the ModMyi repository that is installed by default in Cydia.
  5. Here are two options:
    1. If we have an iOS version from iOS 9.0 to iOS 9.1 (inclusive), we will find and install the following packages (the last three should be checked automatically when installing the first one. If not, we will install them manually):
      • Emoji10 (iOS 9.0-9.3), from the Poomsmart repo
      • Emoji iOS 10, from the vxBakerxv repo
      • EmojiAttributes, from the Poomsmart repo
      • EmojiLocalization, from the Poomsmart repo
      • EmojiResources, from the Poomsmart repo
    2. If we have an iOS version that is between iOS 9.2 and iOS 9.3.3 (inclusive), we will install these packages:
      • Emoji10 (iOS 9.0-9.3), from the Poomsmart repo
      • EmojiAttributes, from the Poomsmart repo
      • Emoji iOS 10, from the vxBakerxv repo
  6. At the end of the installation, the device will ask us to do a respring. We accept, as always when we install something from Cydia that asks us for it.
  7. Next, we open BytaFont 3.
  8. We go to the Swap Mode tab and select Emoji.
  9. Now we touch on Emoji10 to change the originals for the new ones from iOS 10.2.
  10. Finally, we will do another respring (restart of the springboard or home screen, for those who do not know) so that the changes are made. The new emoji will be in the same place where they were in iOS 9.x.

If we want to revert the changes, we will have to do the following:

  1. We open BytaFont 3.
  2. We access Swap Mode - Emoji.
  3. We tapped on Restore BytaFont backup, which will recover a backup copy and install the emoji that were available in the iOS version we are using.
  4. We uninstall the packages that we have installed in step 5 of the previous guide.
  5. We do a respring and everything should return to normal, something especially interesting if, for whatever reason, we notice that when using what is explained in this tutorial our iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad becomes somewhat unstable.
