iOS will receive 56 new emoji characters

Emoji characters or emoticons are symbols that favor a much more precise communication between people; help us express feelings, emotions and reactions in a more accurate way, and even facilitate communication when the interlocutors do not speak the same language. For this reason, we continually work to improve and expand the standards of this "language", always with the idea that they are compatible with any device and operating system.

This is done by the Unicode Consortium, which has already officially announced Unicode 10, which includes a series of new emojis that users can take advantage of. The release consists of 56 new emoji characters with the addition of which will already add a total of 136.690 characters.

Vampires, zombies, food, animals ... The new emoji of Unicode 10

The language of emoji characters is already a universal language because, in fact, this is the essence that underlies its expression, symbols and signs understandable by anyone in the world regardless of their language or culture. Thus, the Unicode Consortium, in charge of establishing the standards for this "language", is working on its continuous improvement, and this year the version Unicode 10.0 will include 56 new emojis that we will soon have available also on our iOS devices.

These new additions were already previewed last March and since then, the consortium has been working on their improvement until reaching this result, 56 new emoji characters among which we can find animals, characters, food, animals, things and even the bitcoins symbol, virtual currency. As they reveal us from the Emojipedia, some of these new emojis are a vampire, a sandwich, broccoli, coconut, fairy, wizard, crazy face, hijab, dinosaurs, explosion over the head, goblins, geniuses, zombie, brain, zebra, giraffe, hedgehog, pie canned food, an orange heart, man and woman climbing a mountain, man and woman meditating, mermaid and mermaid, and so on.

When will the new emojis be available on iOS?

As for when the new Unicode 10.0 emoji characters will be available for our iPhone and iPad devices, the exact date has not yet been revealed. From 9to5Mac, Chance Miller points out that Unicode 10 is likely to land on iOS devices sometime between late this year and early next year.

In principle, it seems that the official release of the new Unicode 10 catalog could have been too late for it to be included in iOS 11, Apple's next mobile operating system whose first beta is already in the hands of developers and whose launch is scheduled for next fall, probably sometime in the second half of September. Therefore, New emoji characters will most likely make their way onto our favorite devices via a minor post update, such as iOS 11.1 or iOS 11.2. In addition, this method would also be attractive for many users to keep their terminals updated to the latest version of the system.

In this sense, it is good to remember that the previous version of this language, Unicode 9.0, was officially launched last summer including a total of 72 new emoji characters, including bacon, an emoji that simulated a selfie, a clown face and many more foods, animals, situations, things, and so on. Also on that occasion they were not available with the debut of iOS 10, but they arrived a little later on our terminals. Specifically, it was the iOS 10.2 update that included these new emojis, so this year we can expect a similar roadmap.

And since in the technological landscape it never seems like never to rest and always continues to work to advance and improve, now that Unicode 10 has been revealed, attention begins to shift to the next version, Unicode 11, which already contains some things like firecrackers, a lab coat, a test tube and many more emoji characters that you can now check here.

How about the new emoji characters included in Unicode 10? Which ones are you still missing?
