The 9.7-inch iPad Pro "only" has 2GB of RAM

iPad Pro 9.7 inch

There is no Apple event that leaves us all equally satisfied. The last event is a little over 24 hours ago and in which they presented the iPhone SE and the 9.7-inch iPad Pro. On the one hand, the iPhone SE is liked by many users for its size, for sharing specifications with the iPhone 6s and for its price, but it has also received criticism for the absence of 3D Touch and some other restrictions. But the iPhone SE is not the only one that suffered these types of cuts.

The presentation of the 9.7-inch iPad Pro did not leave everyone satisfied either. Those who were least happy after seeing Keynote were the owners of a 12.9-inch iPad Pro, since their younger brother has a better camera (which even includes a flash), a better screen and until now we believed that everything else was the same as the older model. big, but we were wrong. As a user who was considering updating his iPad 4, today I received a jug of cold water when I learned that the new iPad of normal size will have 2GB of RAM, the same as the iPad Air 2 and half the size of the larger iPad Pro.

The 9.7 iPad Pro is not as good as we thought

In addition, the A9X processor of the 9.7-inch model is also limited. The one on the 12.9-inch model runs at a 2.24GHz clock speed, slightly higher than the 2.16GHz to which the normal size model works. This limitation is not a catastrophe, since a smaller screen needs less power to function the same and running slower will also consume less battery, but half the RAM memory is a stone in the shoe, a stone that in my opinion is large and pointed.

iPad Pro

If we analyze the situation, Apple wants to sell an iPad "Pro", which means that they promote it as "professional". For professional use, the most important thing is the RAM, since what interests us in this case is to have several applications open at the same time without them freezing. It is clear that with 2GB it will work perfectly, but not for a device sold to us as a professional. In this regard, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro is on par with the iPad Air 2, only it will get things done a bit faster.

We can also talk about cameras, yes, it is true, but we have to go back to the word "Pro": who uses the camera of a mobile device to take professional photos? It is clear that it will take good photos, but if we are using a tablet for professional use, the images that we could take with a iPad Air 2, or even an iPad 4, can be used perfectly to take notes or capture a moment. In short, we are not going to use a tablet to take photos for National Geographic.

An investment in the future ... with an uncertain future

Apple is also "forgetting" (in quotes) that when users buy a tablet, we expect it to last for several years. If we decide to buy the 9.7-inch iPad Pro for the money they ask us, we will do so thinking that it will perform well for many years. I still have my iMac from early 2009 that works perfectly and seems to have a lot of rope left. If you spend the more than € 800 that the 128GB model costs (let's not forget that it is Pro), the last thing we want is to have to renew it in two or three years if we want to continue enjoying the best experience.

Because the RAM problem is not a problem of the present. It is a problem for the future. iOS 7 worked perfectly on the iPhone 5s and iOS 6 worked perfectly on an iPad 2, but what happened three years later? Ok, we cannot say that it is impossible to use the devices, but we can firmly affirm that they have lost excellence over the years and the arrival of new functions, such as the total encryption of the system that arrived in iOS 8. The iPad The 9.7-inch Pro is doomed to suffer the same problem in about 3 years: goodbye, Your Excellency; hi, mediocrity.

Anyway, I think Apple has made a mistake when trying to differentiate between devices: neither the 12.9-inch iPad Pro has the cameras of the 9.7 nor the 9.7 will perform the same as the 12.9-inch. And the iPad Air 2 is not at the level of either of the two Pro models. Whatever we choose, we will be buying a capped device. What are you playing Apple?

Totally agree, for my part, goodbye buying the new Ipad, in reality nothing new is offered for which it is worth the price

What are you playing Apple? Pablo, you really wonder? Well, I think it's very very clear…. To get the money, period. Of course I am not fooled anymore, as you know I have made the leap to the competition (Galaxy S7 edge), and for now I cannot be more happy and excited and as for iPad, I have the iPad Mini 4 (which by the way it also has 2Gb of RAM) and I'm going to continue with it until it literally crawls and for this I hope a few years will pass.

It is not a real question. It has more decorum than saying "what are you going to do!" It is a way of keeping up appearances.

What I do see wrong is that there is no iPad with everything. I imagine that next year the iPad pro 2 will be released and those will be the same. We'll see what happens. Tablets with Ubuntu are worth less than € 300 xD

Man Pablo, I already know for God's sake, ha ha ha.

Next year? ha ha ha, next year the same will happen as this, and the next and the next, which has been happening since Cook is the CEO of Apple, that is, joke after joke.

As comrade Jaranor says, it seems normal to you that the range starts at 32Gb and goes directly to 128, when what ALL GOD has been asking Apple for a long time is that it simply eliminate the 16Gb because at present they are a syn- sense? That is, 32, 64, 128 and now 256Gb. But no, they get used to 64Gb and in the next generation they eliminate them so that you go directly to 128, since going backwards as nobody cares and Apple knows it. The problem is that Cook does not give a damn what you need or want, all he cares about is getting as much money from you as possible.

You don't want your money to be taken from you and you buy a crappy Samsung with android ???! LOL

The S7 edge a crap ??? Son of my life, you are well understood. Surely you are one of those who when Cook presented in a keynote the incredible, wonderful and avant-garde runs of the Apple Watch, you started clapping and screaming like crazy. If that…. Of course, where there is none, you cannot get it.

Do not tell me, you are one of those who is celebrating, and again you will start clapping and screaming like crazy, when Apple presents the iPhone 7 to which they will eliminate the 3.5mm jack. I can see you screaming and clapping when Cook (or whoever he chooses to break the news) says they did it to make the iPhone 7 slimmer, right? Are you one of those?

Everything has gotten out of Apple's hands and I only see one path and it would be a change of CEO now. They are getting pirated a lot, shit after shit, iPhone 5c totally failed (you don't have to be very ingienero to know that this was a failure and they go and took it out for which they have bad staff working at Apple) then all the operating system shit that has had, the shit from Apple Music, the app photos a total garbage, the iPhone SE that is not that they remember the public of 4 ″ but that they have to do something with components that they had saved (hence that great machine that undoes their iPhone to recycle) to recycle them to the iPhone SE and thus get more money, then the issue of the GB of memory is enough to laugh at the people who do take out an iPhone with 16GB and for the superior € 150 difference, in a new iPad only 32gb and then it jumps to 128gb with a price of € 850 only wifi version, but we are crazy and above with only 2gb of Ram, but enough of laughing at us, I had never seen Apple laugh so much at his consumer when he pampered him before and that's why the apple was prestigious io, now that apple is poisoned and for my part I am already leaving the Apple ecosystem. They don't laugh at me anymore, even if I have money to buy all Apple products as many times as you want, one is already smart, and I no longer fall for their Apple consumer scams. CEO change now.

Jaranor ... 100% agree with everything you are saying, what you say about the capabilities of both the iPhone and the iPad is one more evidence, another, of how they want to tease us. to me, as I have already said, they do not take it any more.

3 years an iPad Pro of 9,7 with 2gb of ram, I would say that with iOS 11 it will not go as smoothly as it will now, in fact I have an iPad Pro of 13 and iOS 9.3 and I do not notice that it does not work. soft enough .. as it should!

Go shit apple…. really, I already had everything tied up to buy me the new ipad, you have deflated me

If I think about it coldly, you are absolutely right, I have a "new" iPad (3rd generation) and I was waiting for this new iPad, after seeing the price of the 128Gb and this news, I am in great doubt whether to catch it or go to the iPad Air 2 64Gb>

  8.   Cataltrafes said

The same thing happened to me, I wanted to renew my iPad, but the price increase and the 2 ga from Ram, have left me in doubt, that is not done, Apple, if you want to charge more money for something pro, let it be really, the downside of all this is that I have gotten used to the iOS ecosystem, and I don't know what to buy

Last year Apple did not present the renewal of the iPad Air2 to end this year presenting as a "renewal", an iPad Air2 that brings as a novelty 4 speakers and improved cameras (do they not know that people use cameras and telephones to take photos the mobiles?). A real disappointment. We will have to wait for the next generation to see if they really renew something ...

If all this happens it is for a very simple reason, there is no real competition against Apple. I am sorry to tell you this, Alfonso R, but in a few months you will realize that the battery of your Samsung stops working as it should, the mobile will hang, heat up and crash, but curiously nobody will echo all the Samsung S7 that work badly, because it will not interest and then you will realize that that did not happen with Apple, and you will understand everything.
I have been and am a Samsung user, and thanks to them I have understood why Apple is successful. Samsung's poor quality generates more Apple customers than any advertisement. Two samsung s3, one s4, two galaxy ace at the time and a tab s4 defective. chance? Am i jinx? Or are Samsung the biggest tech scam out there? You'll go back to Apple and you know it.
