iPhone 12 Pro: Is It Really Worth It? Unboxing and first impressions

Welcome to unboxing and first impressions of the new iPhone 12 Pro, because you already know that here at Actualidad iPhone We do not bite our tongues and always analyze the devices with the utmost objectivity. People like you and me, normal people, received our new iPhone 23 Pro today, October 12, and we want you to open it with us.

Discover with us this new iPhone 12 Pro, its spectacular design and all its new features, Is the iPhone Pro range really worth it now that the iPhone 12 has an OLED panel and the same design? Only by testing it as we can know.

We have accompanied this post with a new video on our YouTube channel, where you will be able to see how we open it for the first time, the contents of the box and some plans in great detail, where what matters is the new iPhone and not our opinions. Here the iPhone is the protagonist and what we want is for you to see it, That is why we recommend that in addition to watching the video, you take the opportunity to subscribe to the YouTube channel where we will continue to bring you more content.

Design: Finally inheriting the iPad 'Pro' design

We do not have much to say about the design that is not already explained by itself with the images that accompany this post. Since we saw the official launch of the iPad Pro with smooth edges we were already demanding it, We were looking for the design of the iPad Pro to be transported to the iPhone and the Cupertino company has heard our prayers.

In this case The iPhone 12 Pro is built on a chassis with polished steel edges, something that accompanies the highest range of the Cupertino company since the iPhone X and that has been repeated on both the iPhone XS and the iPhone 11 Pro.

This new iPhone 12 Pro has grown in size due to the screen, which is now 6,1 inches, and despite the fact that it traces the measurements of the iPhone 12, exactly 14,67 x 7,15 x 0,74 cm we are a weight of 187 grams, that is, 25 grams more than the normal iPhone 12. Despite all this, it is thinner and smaller than the iPhone 11, but somewhat larger than the iPhone 11 Pro.

This time Apple has launched the iPhone 12 Pro in four color versions: Pacific Blue (replacing green), white, black and gold. Although it is true, that in the hand we lose grip and comfort as a result of those much more aggressive bezels and the loss of the 2.5D in the glass (something that on the other hand I appreciate).

More screen, although no one had asked for it

The "Pro" version of the iPhone has grown on screen, specifically we have a panel almost identical to that of the iPhone 12, a 6,1-inch Dolby Vision HDR-compliant Super Retina XDR OLED and a resolution of 2.532 by 1.170 pixels (460 PPI). However, despite having the same panel size as the iPhone 11, it is more compact. The only difference from the panel on the iPhone 12 is that it has a typical brightness of 800 nits (625 for the "lower" model).

In terms of sound, our first tests have yielded classic Apple results, a strong, loud and clear sound with exceptionally enhanced bass. Anyone with a MacBook Pro can imagine what we are talking about, the iPhone 12 Pro could easily be the best sounding mobile on the market.

The iPhone screen experience is still of a higher level, a well adjusted panel that thanks to the incidence of True Tone is enjoyed with a very good naturalness. However, we must say that we have not found too much since the arrival of the iPhone X.

What does make us somewhat bored is that the iPhone 12 Pro has a typical 60Hz panel, something that compared to the usual use of a 90Hz terminal has seemed like a step backward. We imagine that Apple made this decision for autonomy issues, we will never know.

Once upon a time, three cameras and a LiDAR

In our in-depth review we will talk at length about the camera module that has the following:

  • 12 MP Ultra Wide Angle and f / 2.4 aperture
  • 12 MP Wide Angle and f / 1.6 aperture
  • Telephoto (Zoom x2): 52mm focal length with f / 2.0 aperture, six lens elements, four hybrid magnifications and optical stabilization

In the numerical section, the truth is that it represents little growth compared to the previous version, and Apple made it clear during the presentation that it has invested a lot of effort in the software.

The Cupertino company has further refined the performance of its camera app and the way it works. In our first impressions we have not been able to especially test the performance of the camera, so it wouldn't be fair to tell you too much about it.

For all this we have Night Mode, Smart HDR 3 and the possibility of recording video in 4K at 60 FPS capturing HDR with Dolby Vision. In the absence of observing the real performance, one of the videos captured with HDR has caused us conflicts in the video editing with Final Cut and could not be included in it.

For the rest, we will continue to use it profusely in order to tell you what the results are and above all we will face it with the main options of the rival market. In the meantime DXoMark doesn't seem to have anything to say about your score, curious?

A power that is felt and absences in the box

IPhone 12 Pro features Apple's A14 Bionic chip that implements 5G connectivity, although it is especially curious that in Europe we are left with the "light" version. Theoretically we have 6GB of RAM, 128GB of base storage (256 / 512GB if we wish) and a 2.815 mAh battery that is 7% less than the previous version, and that we have not yet been able to squeeze out.

It is time to talk about absences. Apple has only included the new USB-C charger in the "Pro" range for a year, and despite taking out the fact that there are more than 700 million Apple chargers around the world, the reality is that the vast majority of These are 5W USB-A, which not only misses the fast charging of the iPhone 12 Pro (30W wired and 25W wireless), but also it is unlikely that we will be able to take advantage of the included cable, as it is USB-C to Lightning. An incomprehensible move by Apple that I think has not timed well this time and has complicated life for users, We imagine that to incentivize the sales of the MagSafe. Everything is for the environment.
