Despite the fact that we are still back with the iPhone of 2017 and of which we still cannot assure even its name, the rumors about the iPhone that Apple will launch next year are already beginning to circulate.
According to information published by the South Korean newspaper The Economic Daily, Apple would have reached an agreement with LG Chemical for this company to be the exclusive supplier of the battery that will integrate the supposed "iPhone 9" of 2018.
All "iPhone 9" batteries will be supplied by LG
We are in the middle of the rumor season of the iPhone 8 which, foreseeably, will be launched in less than two months, however, eyes are already beginning to be on the iPhone of 2018 that, for some reason that I do not understand, some already call it iPhone 9.
Specifically, rumors speak of something as important as the battery (if not, tell Samsung). The usual Apple policy is to have multiple suppliers for the components it needs, a much safer option against possible unforeseen events with one supplier. However, for the iPhone of 2018, LG has made a significant enough investment in its battery technology, which is how it would have reached an agreement with those in Cupertino to be the one and only supplier of 2018 iPhone batteries.
A more advantageous "L" shape
It is speculated that the battery of the "iPhone 9" will be L-shaped, something that is also rumored for the supposed iPhone 8 that we will see in a couple of months. Thanks to this design, Apple could increase battery capacity without affecting the size or thickness of the terminal. Also, it seems that with an L battery design, this it could also be charged faster.
Therefore, it seems that the L-design that LG would have focused on as well, would have been the deciding factor so that this South Korean company has “taken the cat to the water” and has managed to become the exclusive supplier of the iPhone of 2018. Other suppliers, especially Samsung, continue to focus on a rectangular and traditional battery design, the one found in vast majority of smartphones today, so it would have lost interest for Apple in favor of LG.
In this sense, according to the information published in the CNBC, the battery that the LG division will supply to power the future "iPhone 9" that will be released in 2018, has a design in the shape of the letter "L", folded to its right side at the bottom. This factor allows the space that exists in the lower part of the iPhone to be used more efficiently.
