The iPhone 7s could be thicker than the current model

One of Apple's perennial obsessions has always been to create increasingly lighter, thinner and more portable devices and equipments, even when this has meant rejecting the possibility of granting more autonomy to its terminals. We have seen it in the MacBook series and, of course, we have also seen it in a much more pronounced way in the iPad and the iPhone, however, with the next iPhone 7s (or whatever it is called) things could change, and the fault lies with the materials.

According to a new rumor, the substitution of aluminum in favor of glass will cause the new iPhone 7s and 7s Plus to appear slightly thicker than the current models of Apple's flagship.

iPhone 7s: new materials, new thickness

It is expected that next month Apple unveils three new smartphones called iPhone 7s, iPhone 7s Plus and iPhone 8. And while the latter would present a completely renewed design with a large 5,8-inch OLED screen and without frames, the "S" models will have a design very similar to the current models, as is usual in this series, although they will also integrate some notable differences that will make them look more different than current models.

With the launch of new iPhone models with 4,7-inch and 5,5-inch displays (hypothetically assumed as iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus), Apple will sidestep aluminum as its main material and opt for a rear made of glass. This is not a new rumor at all since, in fact, it has already circulated since before the appearance of the current flagships in autumn of last year, however, a new rumor to which the media has given considerable consistency, points in the direction of what eThe shift to glass as the main material will cause the iPhone 7s to get fat.

Indeed, the replacement of aluminum by glass will force Apple to obviate its obsession to create increasingly thin devices as iPhone 7s would be slightly thickeror than the current model.

The key millimeter

This information, which, on the other hand, remains a rumor and has not been confirmed by the company, has been published by the German blog "Giga Apple." In this publication, a manufacturer of iPhone cases and casings is cited as a source, which claims to have reliable sources of information within Foxconn, the company in charge of manufacturing Apple's iPhone. Evidently, the identity of this source has not been revealed.

But the truth is that it is not necessary for users to be alarmed because the truth is that this larger size will practically not be perceptible to the eye, to the weight or to the touch. According to this rumor, iPhone 7s will be just 0,1 millimeter thicker than the current iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Although it is also true that according to a leaked specification document, iPhone 7 will experience a slight increase in all dimensions.

There is a first time for everything, but this is not the first

On the other hand, despite this "eternal obsession" with the thinnest of its equipment and devices, It is not the first time that Apple has increased the thickness of any of its devices. The Cupertino company has already "fattened" the iPhone 6s over the iPhone 6 due to the introduction of the 3D Touch function and the pressure-sensitive display. This year, if the fattening is true, it will be due not to the arrival of a new function, but to a change of material, aluminum for glass, which on the other hand, will allow the introduction of the much rumored wireless charging (inductive).

So, if the rumor is right, iPhone 7s will be 7,21 millimeters thick compared to 7,1 millimeters for iPhone 7 and iPhone 6s. In front of them, the iPhone 6 measured 6,9 millimeters.

The document also indicates that the width will go from 67,14 millimeters to 67,27 millimeters while the height will jump from 138,31 millimeters to 138,44 millimeters. As a result, the rear camera overhang will be about a quarter of a millimeter thinner.
